The many street food and vintage markets in Shoreditch help make East London what it is; a vibrant, lively, pretty neighborhood that welcomes every single one of us.
Shopping in London is one of my favorite things to do, let’s start there.
I may have shopped around in the Bethnal Green charity shops a lot when I was living in Mile End and Bethnal Green.
Yet, it’s recently dawned on me I have never really talked about the Shoreditch neighborhood.
And that’s a shame, because from Mark Street Gardens to the New Inn Yard street art, there’s so much to do here.
Today, you’ll discover some of the best markets in Shoreditch, with of course, Brick Lane and Columbia Road Flower Market, but also the picturesque London Fields Market – and more!

Visiting the best markets in Shoreditch is a bit like going to the best charity shops in London; you never know what you’re going to find.
If you’re living in London on a budget, I’ve got a handful of shopping posts you’re going to love to read.
I’ve written extensively about London’s cool charity shops in Camden Town, North Finchley, and Muswell Hill – even places to get discounted designer clothes.
I’ve split this guide into three parts; the markets in Brick Lane, the street food markets in Shoreditch, and the best markets around Shoreditch as well – those that no one really talks about because they’re more local.
But if you’ve been to The Working Line before, then you know I’m a sucker for all things hidden in London, like non touristy things to do and secret views.
We’ll start with some of the most famous, and finish with some of the best markets in Shoreditch that are still, to this day, only really local!
Markets in Shoreditch: Brick Lane Markets

If someone asks you what the best markets in Shoreditch are, you’ll probably answer without a doubt: the Brick Lane market.
Market?
Without an ‘s’?
The Brick Lane market is divided into quite a few parts; if you’re looking for the Shoreditch vintage market, you’d do well to visit the underground Brick Lane vintage stalls.
But if you’re looking for street food or antique stalls, then the Sunday Upmarket or the Tea Rooms market are different markets in Shoreditch to pay a visit to.

The Brick Lane market takes up a big chunk of Brick Lane, and it’s mostly open on Saturdays and Sundays.
There are lots of things to do in Shoreditch when the markets aren’t open; like visiting Beigel Shop Brick Lane and tasting their stunning rainbow bagels when the street food market is closed.
Or, if you’re fancying the best hot chocolate in London, a visit to Dark Sugars Brick Lane is something you can’t overlook.
In any case, most of the Brick Lane cafes and shops are open every day of the week, it’s just the markets that are less vibrant, and less busy.
At that point, if you’re looking for cafes to work in London, there are some amazing cafes in Brick Lane that are perfect for that.
Quite a couple of secret cafes as well.
Like my recently-found Kahaila, where I love to work when I’m in East London, with a friendly team and the meanest rainbow cake you’ve ever tried.
But come Saturday and Sunday, and you’ll be in the heart of the best markets in Shoreditch!

The Sunday Upmarket clearly is one of the best markets in Shoreditch if you’re around Brick Lane, walking and checking out the amazing street art and craving some of the hottest street food in London.
The Truman Brewery Sunday Upmarket hosts stalls with cuisines from all over the world, from Moroccan to Jamaican, and plenty of delicious burgers and cakes, and my favorite: the raw sugar cane juice from City Juice.

Just off Brick Lane, and before the Backyard Market I’ll talk about below, you’ve got the Tea Rooms Market.
A kind of secret market, the Tea Rooms Market hosts plenty of small vintage creators, along with homeware and antique stalls that you really can’t miss if you’re in a flea market type of mood.
The prices follow those of the usual antiques markets in London, and it’s really interesting to visit the Tea Rooms Market if you’re looking for inspiration or that piece of home decor you don’t know you need yet.

Backyard Market at Old Truman Brewery
The Backyard Market is one of the hidden, most underrated markets in Shoreditch in my opinion.
There, in a huge type of warehouse, you’ll find anything from vintage clothes to handmade jewelry, and lots of homeware.
Like the Sunday Upmarket, the Backyard Market is part of the Old Truman Brewery.
Close to this the market, you’ll find a unique broccoli art shop, and the other more secret vintage, art, and antiques Tea Rooms Market I mentioned above.
Sleazy Pizza, with their outstanding Neapolitan pizza, is also a perfect place to eat decadently when you’re in Brick Lane – don’t miss it!

There’s no introducing the Brick Lane Vintage Market anymore, or so it seems.
Located right in the middle of Brick Lane, in the Black Eagle Brewery, this underground vintage market has anything you need from vintage to secondhand clothes, amazing accessories, and shoes all more stylish than the previous one.
I spend a lot of time browsing the stalls at the Brick Lane Vintage Market.
You never know what you’re going to find, and from handmade clothes to old, vintage costumes, you’ll definitely find a way to spend a paycheck there.

Street Food Markets in Shoreditch
Some of the most famous markets in Shoreditch are street food markets, and if you’ve got a knack for anything street food, you’ll love the following food markets.
Best Markets in Shoreditch: Lalaland Shoreditch
Dinerama was one of the ultimately best street food markets in Shoreditch.
Now that it’s been rebranded Lalaland, it’s probably going to become one of your favorite markets in Shoreditch, because it is huge and you’ll find there some of the best street food in London.
Love bao buns?

Delicious, juicy burgers?

Best Markets in Shoreditch: Boxpark Shoreditch
Boxpark Shoreditch has this atmosphere that attracts all kinds of people to it, from friends wanting to catch up to hipsters on the lookout for new clothes and home items.
If you’re looking for the Shoreditch food market, the upper part of Boxpark Shoreditch has numerous stalls all more delicious than the previous one.
From Vietnamese pho to burgers and pizza, you’ll find there is plenty of street food to calm those cravings.
One of the best cafes in Shoreditch is located just a stone’s throw away from Boxpark Shoreditch: Jolene, on Redchurch street, attracts people day in, day out.
At street level, you have at Boxpark some of the coolest shops in Shoreditch, with Absence of Colour and Astrid & Miyu being two favorites of mine.
Also, when you’re in the area, don’t forget to check out Chance St, Redchurch St and Whitby Street – they are filled with the infamously famous Shoreditch street art!

If you’re looking for the most famous markets in Shoreditch, Old Spitalfields Market definitely is one of the markets you need to visit.
On the outside of the market, you’ll find lots of amazing independent shops, among which The Ordinary, perfect if you need a cheap and good foundation.
On the inside of Old Spitalfields Market, you’ll find more street food than your stomach will ever be able to handle, from authentic Neapolitan pizza to burgers, ice cream, and lots of vintage clothes and handmade goods.
One thing to remember about the area, though, is that you’re in the heart of one of London’s medieval sites.
Indeed, a couple of minutes away from the amazing Shoreditch market, you also have the Charnel House ruins below street level.
It’s situated roughly in the middle of Bishops Square, which is but one of the secret gardens that Liverpool Street offers, with ponds, fish, and vibrant grass.
And if you’re feeling more contemporary, the Spitalfields elephant sculptures are located right on the outside of Old Spitalfields Market.

Come weekends, the Columbia Flower Market usually empty during the week gets dressed in all the plants, flowers, and greenery you can imagine.

London Fields is one of the most beautiful areas in London.
Since it’s located close to Shoreditch and Bethnal Green, a visit to the London Fields Market will provide you with everything you need with organic, delicious fresh food.
The Hackney Market looks like a village market, and I bought delicious food numerous times there when I used to live in Bethnal Green.
Definitely one of the best markets in Shoreditch, and you can spend a full day in the surroundings on a sunny day.

Hoxton Street Market (also called Hoxton Square Market) is one of the oldest markets in London.
Located a stone’s throw away from Shoreditch, it first opened in 1687, and you’ll find lots of amazing handmade decor, clothes, and street food stalls at the Hoxton Square Market on Saturdays.
I mentioned Hoxton once in my guide to the best halal breakfast in London, since the Barrel Boulangerie in Hoxton is one of the coolest bakeries in London.
A visit to the Hoxton Street Market will give you all the vibes of the best markets in Shoreditch, without the flood of people you can usually find in Brick Lane.

Having lived in Bethnal Green for the longest time before I moved to Rome for a bit, I passed by the Whitechapel Market quite a lot.
If you’re looking for purely local markets in Shoreditch, the Whitechapel Market has some fresh fruit and street food stalls with lots of Indian and Pakistani food.
Not too far walking from the Whitechapel Market towards Aldgate East, if you’re feeling like having some delicious Full English breakfast, you’ve got Grounded and Dulce Coffee which are both great options to fill up that belly.
