I’ve written a lot about the best cafes to work in London, and now the time has come to tell you about all the best cafes to work in Canary Wharf, in the financial district in East London.

It’s one of my favorite areas of London, and I have a long-term goal in my life to get my own apartment in Canary Wharf.

It’s cute, you’ve got the Crossrail Place Rooftop Garden there as well as towering buildings that make you feel super small, especially when they’re illuminated.

So if you’re looking for cute cafes to work in Canary Wharf or to study, you’ll find here all the best options.

They won’t be as cute and flowery as the study cafes in Chelsea, or the cool study cafes in Camden, but you’ll still be able to get some good work done.

And if you’d like to discover some more cafes to work in London by area, check out these posts:

12 Best Cafes to Work in Canary Wharf (Laptop-Friendly)

In this guide, I’ll tell you about some of the most famous coffee shop brand names, like Starbucks cafes, Black Sheep Coffee, and Caffè Nero.

These are some of my absolute go-tos when I’m looking for cafes to work in London.

They’ve often got power outlets scattered throughout the coffee shop, which is bare practical when you’re planning to study all day.

They’ve also got free WiFi, and it’s true that the Starbucks coffee shops in London are way more reliable in terms of cleanliness and WiFi than if you were looking for, say, cafes to work in Manhattan or Brooklyn.

There are quite a few nice cafes in Canary Wharf to study and get some good work done, but please be aware that it is indeed in chain coffee shops that you’ll find yourself most productive – especially since no one will look at you sideways if you stay for a while.

A lot of these don’t have power outlets by the dozen, so do make sure you come with your phone and laptop charged as well!

We’ll talk about three different Starbucks cafes in this guide, and the first one is located in the Churchill Place Shopping Centre.

I usually love working at all kinds of chain coffee shops like Starbucks, Caffè Nero, Pret a Manger and Costa Coffee, and this one is no different.

You’ve got some really good opening hours; Starbucks is open from 6 am to 7 pm during the week, so you’ve really got time to be productive with work there.

Be aware that while there are power outlets and free WiFi, and one of the most accessible study cafes in Canary Wharf, Starbucks on Churchill Place might not be the most comfortable option if you’re planning to spend all day there.

Best Laptop Friendly Cafe in Canary Wharf: Black Sheep Coffee

I’m yet to write a full guide to the best Black Sheep Coffee to work in London, but if you’re looking for good coffee shops to study in Canary Wharf, this is one of your best options.

It’s open from 6 am to 8 pm almost every day of the week, and even at weekends, you’re able to study and work on your laptop there if needed.

Black Sheep Coffee cafes are usually big and bustling with life, something I love when I’m in need of study motivation.

You’ve got people, power outlets, free WiFi, and a really nice background. Just perfect if you’re looking for the best cafes to work in Canary Wharf and laptop friendly places above all.

The second Starbucks I’ll mention in this guide is located inside the Canary Wharf Shopping Centre, and it’s more ‘protected‘ from the cold air than the one on Churchill Place.

If you’re looking for good cafes to get work done in Canary Wharf, this branch is going to be a bit more welcoming, especially since you’ll also find lots of people working there at every hour of the day.

The Starbucks in the Canary Wharf Shopping Centre has longer opening hours; from 6 am to 8 pm on weekdays.

Nothing different from the other branches of Starbucks cafes in London aside from that; free WiFi, a few power outlets, and the same old same Starbucks coffee and pastries.

Best Cafes to Study in Canary Wharf London: Caffè Nero

Now, now – one of the very best cafes to work in Canary Wharf is Caffè Nero, also located inside the Canary Wharf Shopping Centre.

If you’ve been here before, you’ve probably already been through my guide to the best Caffè Nero to study in London, and the Canary Wharf branch is one of them.

No subscription like you’d get in Pret coffee shops, but a stunning wooden setting, with power outlets, and a great atmosphere in which you’ll feel super productive – opening hours are from 6.30 am to 7 pm on weekdays.

Most of the super cute cafes in Canary Wharf revolve around breakfast and brunch types of places, but if you’d still like to find a somewhat welcoming cafe to study in London around the Canary Wharf Shopping Centre, it’s Caffè Nero all the way.

Best Cafes to Work in Canary Wharf London: Notes Coffee Roasters

Next up, you’ve got Notes Coffee, which has several branches all around London. You’ve got one near King’s Cross Station, one in Victoria, and a coffee shop in Covent Garden as well.

If you’re looking for a cafe open late in London to study, Notes Coffee is open from 7 am to 7 pm on Mondays, and 7 am to 9 pm from Tuesday to Friday.

It’s also open on weekends, but unless you come really early to avoid brunch people, I’d recommend visiting during the week.

The Notes Coffee on Crossrail Place in Canary Wharf is not the biggest cafe in the surroundings.

Yet, if you’re looking for a good coffee shop to get some work done around Canary Wharf and Canada Square, it’s a super cute coffee shop to stay in for a few hours.

The third Starbucks coffee shop in this guide is also located in the Canary Wharf Shopping Centre, and it’s also a great place to study, bring your laptop, or even just read a good book.

There’s plenty of space in this Starbucks, and the opening hours are some of the longest out of all the cafes in Canary Wharf where you might want to spend some time studying.

This Starbucks is open from 6 am to 9.30 pm, so if you’re in East London and want to smash some work out of the way before going back home, it’s going to be one of your best options.

Best Cafes to Work in Canary Wharf London: Canary Coffee

There are two amazing study spaces in Canary Wharf that are still somewhat underdogs: Canary Coffee and the Novotel lobby.

And what’s amazing is that Canary Coffee is located inside the Novotel lobby, so you can basically set up camp wherever you want.

If you’re looking for really cute cafes to work in Canary Wharf, Canary Coffee is definitely one of the prettiest with its wooden background and chalet house type of atmosphere – with free WiFi and power outlets.

While the coffee shop has tight opening hours (8 am – 5 pm on weekdays), the Novotel lobby is basically open at all times of the day – so you can bring your laptop, your notebooks, and your books, and grind till you drop.

Best Study Cafes in Canary Wharf: Attendant Coffee Roasters

The Attendant is not only one of the best cafes to work in Canary Wharf; they’ve also got a few other coffee shops in London which include Shoreditch and Fitzrovia, not too far from Tottenham Court Road.

The Attendant in Canary Wharf is located in South Quay, in a bright, wide, and beautiful area I personally love.

It’s a spacious cafe that also focuses on breakfast, brunch, and other stunning drinks made in-house. The coffee is one of the most important features of the coffee shop, and you’ll taste there some of the best coffee in London.

We’re in a mix of coffee shop and restaurant, and if you come early (it’s open from 8 am to 4 pm on weekdays, 9 am to 4 pm on weekends), you’ll be able to have a full workday’s worth under your belt.

Best Laptop Friendly Cafes in London: Ole & Steen

Photo: Ole & Steen

I love Ole & Steen since the very first time I visited their cafe in Leicester Square, and I’ve found that most of the Old & Steen coffee shops are really laptop friendly.

Namely, they’re perfect when you want to find good cafes to study in London and don’t have time to waste to find the perfect study cafe.

Ole & Steen in the Canary Wharf Shopping Centre is a bit smaller than, say, their cafe on Tottenham Court Road, but the opening times are perfect if you’re looking for coffee shops to work all day.

It’s open from 8 am to 9 pm on weekdays, and from 8 am to 8 pm on weekends – and with a few power outlets here and there as well as free WiFi, the Danish coffee shop and bakery is clearly one of the best cafes to study in London around Canary Wharf.

Best Laptop Friendly Cafes in London: Caravan Coffee Roasters

There are a few Caravan Coffee Roasters spots scattered across London, and my favorite is probably the one on Euston Road, close to the British Library and the Wellcome Collection.

Caravan Coffee Roasters is a restaurant and a cafe, which offers its own ground coffee in an upscale, industrial setting. The Canary Wharf place is perfect if you’re looking for a cafe to work in London for a few hours.

Still, when breakfast and brunch are around the corner, you might not want to be around the bustling spot.

However, WiFi is fast and free, and since Caravan Coffee Roasters in Canary Wharf is not so central, it appears it’s a bit quieter – good if you’re looking for quiet study spaces in London to work for a while on your laptop.

Other Places to Study in Canary Wharf

There are two other good places to study in Canary Wharf I personally enjoy working from; BrewDog and the Idea Store. They might not be coffee shops per se, but they’re still good options if you want to be in your zone and productive.

BrewDog is already known throughout London and the UK as one of the most famous pub chains, but they also have introduced the DeskDog initiative a few years ago for all students and freelancers looking for a cheap coworking space in London.

You can either walk in or book your DeskDog coworking session for £10 on the BrewDog website for a few hours (the sessions in Canary Wharf are from 12 pm to 5 pm).

During the time you’re working at BrewDog, you’ve got free hot drinks and water, free WiFi, and a really uplifting space to make it happen – as well as a free pint at the end of the day.

I’ve written a lot about the best free libraries in London to study, and I already mentioned the Idea Store in Whitechapel.

There are a few Idea Store libraries in Tower Hamlets in East London, including the one in Whitechapel, another one on Chrisp Street, and one in Canary Wharf.

The Idea Store in Canary Wharf is located in the shopping center, and it has great opening hours.

You’ll be able to work there from 9 am to 9 pm from Monday to Thursday, with shorter opening times on Friday and on weekends.

You’ll also find lots of people already typing away on their laptops, studying their notes and books, and what’s best than a quiet library to be super productive with work?
