A local’s guide to the best shops in Notting Hill, West London, from vintage shops to bookshops, affordable clothing spots, souvenirs and gifts!
If I’ve talked about the best places to visit in Notting Hill in various posts, I’ve only mentioned its amazing shopping spots in passing.
Today’s the day, then, to be celebrating its vintage shops, independent boutiques, specialty food shops, quirks and antiques.
Notting Hill is one of the poshest areas of London; it’s famous for its colorful streets, the Portobello Road Market, and great breakfast spots.
Did you know, for instance, that on a self itinerary of Paris in London, you’ll find French bakery Maison Puget, which has been here for years, with outstanding pastries and a wonderful decor inside?
Anyhoo – whether you’re hunting for luxurious table linens, vintage shopfronts, hand-iced biscuits or sustainable fashion, you’ll find them all in Notting Hill – let’s dive in!
London’s 9 Best Shops in Notting Hill from Clothes to Books

In this guide to Notting Hill’s shops, I’ve chosen to show you a little bit of everything; cheap clothes and second hand books, vintage finds, and some super instagrammable shops.
I’d say Notting Hill’s more famous for its carnival, its beautiful mews, like the bright pink St Luke’s Mews, and for the Portobello Road Market and its antiques, than for the lesser-known shops I’m about to show you.
And that’s exactly why you’re here, isn’t it?
To discover some more off the beaten path shopping spots; these are the best in this sophisticated West London area!
Best Shops in Notting Hill: Appletree Boutique, Pembridge Road

Located on Pembridge Road, close to Notting Hill Gate station, the Appletree Boutique has been around since the early 1990s, and offers a curated selection of fashion and lifestyle items aimed at women.
We’re at the very start of the road that leads to the Portobello Road Market further down; take a look at the indie brands displayed at Appletree Boutique, and you might find a couple of new clothes and accessories!
Best Shops in Notting Hill: Poundland, Portobello Road

Poundland has been one of my favorite budget shops in London ever since I first moved there in 2019; it’s much later that I discovered there was a branch on Portobello Road.
There are plenty of cool things to buy at Poundland for the home and the body, as well as stationery, makeup, and arts and crafts.

The Notting Hill shop is one of the biggest branches to Poundland I’ve found in London.
While it can be crowded, there’s a huge selection of 1-pound items to treat yourself to – the homeware section and Makeup Gallery nail polishes and lipsticks are particularly good.
Best Shops in Notting Hill: Alice’s, Portobello Road

Alice’s Antiques, on Portobello Road, was established in 1887, making it one of the oldest shops in London.
Its vintage shopfront is super instagrammable; you might have seen it in passing on Pinterest or Instagram, but visiting it in person makes for an even better experience.

While Alice’s Antiques has always been a wonderful antiques and vintage shop – almost a curiosity shop inside!, it actually gained international fame through its appearance in the Paddington movie series (it served as the inspiration for Mr Gruber’s antique shop).
Best Shops in Notting Hill: Books for Cooks, Blenheim Crescent

One of the most beautiful bookshops in London, Books for Cooks sits on Blenheim Crescent, in a more tucked-away area of Notting Hill, and makes for a specialty bookshop that cooking lovers shouldn’t miss.
Established in 1983, Books for Cooks sells over 8,000 titles, all revolving around cooking and baking.
Rare editions, vintage books, contemporary recipes and a secret cafe hidden at the back – that’s what you can expect in this beautiful shop.
And, for those on the lookout for unique experiences in London, you’ll be delighted to learn that Books for Cooks offers cooking workshops in the upstairs kitchen.
Whether you’re willing to learn about basic cooking techniques or exploring specific cuisines, the hands-on experience makes for a truly cool thing to do when you’re in the city.
Best Shops in Notting Hill: Daunt Books, Kensington Park Road

If you’re ever wandered around the Marylebone area, you might have spotted Daunt Books, one of the most unique shops in London, with lots of fiction, non-fiction, and travel titles sitting on the racks.
Well, there’s another Daunt Books shop in Notting Hill, located on Kensington Park Road, and while it does not feature the iconic wooden decor, it’s still a really gorgeous bookshop to visit.
This branch was established in 2025, and there’s even a reading nook in the basement area; if you’re looking for cool things to buy in London, I’d say a good book always makes for a great souvenir, especially a book about London.
Best Shops in Notting Hill: Royal Trinity Hospice, Portobello Road

All around Notting Hill Gate station and along Portobello Road are located a few really good charity shops; not the cheapest in London, but those you have to visit for secondhand designer clothes.
The Royal Trinity Hospice charity shop on Portobello Road is one of the most striking when it comes to the selection of brands.
The prices, although more expensive than, say, charity shops in Bethnal Green or Camden Town, are really reasonable considering the couture brands showcased there.
As usual when it comes to charities and shops like TK Maxx, the collections and pieces exhibited go fast: if you come across something you like, be it a jacket, jewelry or a handbag, don’t leave without it!
Best Shops in Notting Hill: Summerill & Bishop, Portland Road

Summerill & Bishop is a little bit more hidden than shops on Portobello Road and nearby streets; located on Portland Road, it’s a famous store when it comes to luxury homeware and table linens.
I’ve recently shared with you the cheapest homeware shops in London, and Summerill & Bishop definitely is in the more upscale range, with items that feel like once-in-a-lifetime treats.

Established in 1994 by friends June Summerill and Bernadette Bishop, the shop offers one of the most beautiful shopfronts in London you’ll ever see – and the decor changes seasonally, too!
The table linen range is – and feels – exclusive.
Every linen piece is designed in-house and they’re more than a dining staple: they’re true pieces of art, which you can purchase alongside stunning dinnerware and glassware.
Best Shops in Notting Hill: Biscuiteers, Kensington Park Road

Biscuiteers on Kensington Park Road is one of the cutest bakeries in London; it’s also a coffee shop and a store in itself, which regularly offers unique workshops that revolve around biscuit icing.
Established in 2007, Biscuiteers now has several branches around London, but the Notting Hill shop is one of the most instagrammable places you’ll be given to see in London.

Outside, an illustrated black and white facade; as you step inside, you feel like you’re entering Alice in Wonderland’s world.
Those of you looking for unique food spots would do well to book Biscuiteers’ afternoon tea experience, which feels more British than Britishness itself.
Scones with clotted cream and jam, finger sandwiches, and of course, hand-iced biscuits are served with a choice of carefully selected teas.
Best Shops in Notting Hill: Supermarket of Dreams, Holland Park Avenue

Proudly sitting on Holland Park Avenue, the Supermarket of Dreams is the last Notting Hill shop I want to mention, and probably one of the most mind blowing places you’ll be given to visit in the city.
It’s a place that reimagines the traditional grocery shopping experience, far from supermarkets I’ve mentioned in the past to help you out if you’re looking to move to London.

Rather, the Supermarket of Dreams, founded in 2020, blends the convenience of a high-end grocery store with the flair of fine dining: Izakaya, inside, notably makes for one of the best spots for sushi in the city.
In the morning, you can already grab a good slice of cake and a colorful latte, or pop by for artisanal snacks as you’re making your way to the Kyoto Garden or the Dutch Garden at Holland Park.
London’s 9 Best Shops in Notting Hill from Clothes to Books

There you have them – the best shops in Notting Hill, those in which you can experience a bit of budget shopping, a bit of poshness, and discover lots of amazing gifts and souvenirs.
Each indie shop, cafe, or specialty store has its own strong personality, from the playful, almost vintage cafe and shop at Biscuiteers to the gourmet innovation of the Supermarket of Dreams.
When you’re done exploring Notting Hill, you can then wander to other West London hidden gems, like the nearby Dutch Garden in Holland Park.
Or, you could go back to Central London and do some more shopping on Oxford Street, Soho or London Bridge.
After all, London’s famous for its plethora of shopping streets, and you’ll find many more independent shops to make your trip to the city as memorable as can be!
