I am a serial shopper – I have no trouble admitting it, except, maybe, when my bank account screams at me to stop shopping…

And when you live in London, even on a budget, this is one of the hardest things to do.

There are many, many different shopping streets in London, all with their own vibe; from Soho’s streetwear shops to luxurious brands in Mayfair and Chelsea, you can really find all you could ever wish for in town.

And since I’ve been sharing a lot of my favorite vintage shops and other shopping spots in Camden Town lately, here are now all the streets you have to visit to snatch the prettiest items!

In this guide, I have gathered all the shopping streets to visit in Central London for high-street brands and tons of items, with clothing, perfume, stationery, makeup and whatnot.

However, as a person who lived in London for five years and now shares her time between Rome and London, there are many shopping streets that feel way more local; the kind you’ll find in outer boroughs, like Wood Green, Muswell Hill, or North Finchley.

So, this guide is split into two parts:

Oxford Street is filled with shops; mainly high-street brands, like H&M, Zara, or Urban Outfitters, but you will also find plenty of great stores there, of the kind you only find in the UK:

  • One of the biggest TK Maxx stores in London is located there
  • Whittard of Chelsea, which offers delicious tea and coffee recipes, along with related products which make for amazing souvenirs from London
  • Superdrug and Boots, which are two of the best makeup stores in town, especially for drugstore makeup – some things to buy absolutely there:
    • The Barry M Gelly Hi Shine nail polish; the British brand sells them for under 5 pounds, and they are super long lasting, glossy, in a word: incredible
    • The MUA Makeup Academy lip liners; they retail for 2/3 pounds and are exceptionally pigmented and long lasting
    • The 3ina Lipstick range: the colors are semi-matte, full and pigmented, and even have a soft, very pleasing smell

You will find more unique shops in London around Soho and in places where charity shops are very present, but one can’t deny that Oxford Street is one of the very best shopping streets in London.

Bond Street and New Bond Street are two of the most famous streets in Mayfair, one of the poshest – and prettiest areas in Central London.

That is where you will find, in addition to really cute and sophisticated coffee shops, a myriad of luxury shops:

  • The Fenwick department store is one to visit absolutely for high-end clothing brands
  • Chanel, Dior, Saint-Laurent and many other couture brands can be found there

If you are trying to create a luxury itinerary in London, do pop by the Ralph Lauren cafe – with the red phone booths in front, it makes for a great photo spot!

Piccadilly is another must-visit spot when it comes to shopping in London – the large part of the stores there are luxurious, with the Fortnum & Mason department store at the forefront.

Maison Assouline, which is but one of the most instagrammable places in London, is a beautiful bookshop I can’t recommend enough, if only to check out the collections of table books on any topic, from fashion to travel.

Hatchards, the oldest bookstore in London, is also located on Piccadilly, and when you’re done book shopping, pop by the Gentlemen Baristas for amazing coffee.

Some of the most famous shopping streets in London are located around in the Covent Garden neighborhood:

  • King Street offers a few fashion and makeup stores, along with some incredible restaurants – check out Jo Malone for perfume and candles, Monica Vinader for minimalist jewelry, Glossier for trendy makeup, and Nars for high-end makeup
  • James Street is also filled with fashion, beauty and makeup shops; MAC Cosmetics, Charlotte Tilbury, Rituals and, at the end on Long Acre, one of the biggest Boots in London
  • Long Acre, lastly, offers some of the trendiest shops in Covent Garden:
    • TK Maxx, for starters, with a huge collection of discounted clothes, makeup, candles and shoes
    • Levi’s
    • A couple of vintage shops which include the must-visit Loot shop
    • Fujifilm, House of Photography is also located on this long street, and perfect if you’d like to treat yourself to a new Polaroid
    • In terms of food, Buns from Home has a branch on Long Acre, and sells some of the craziest, tastiest, more incredible cinnamon buns in London

When you’re done shopping on Piccadilly, why not visit Regent Street?

If you’re traveling to London for the first time, chances are high that you will be treading this historic street at some point anyway, so why not go shopping while you’re at it?

While Oxford Street is more of that trendy shopping spot and Piccadilly is more luxurious, Regent Street is a mix of both.

There, you will come across stores like Maje, Burberry, Hollister as well as Zara, H&M Home, and some really cool cafes complete with a terrace from which you can enjoy a moment observing people, buses and cars passing by.

One of the most colorful places in London, Carnaby Street is not only famous for its shops, but also its annual countdown for Christmas lights and decorations.

This is also where you will find some of the trendiest stores in London:

  • Liberty of London, complete with luxury scented candles, cute stationery, food and high-end makeup brands
  • Monki, with their colorful collections of fashionable clothes
  • The Rolling Stones flagship store, with anything from accessories to clothes
  • Nobody’s Child, one of the lesser-known clothing shops in London, and amazing for maxi-dresses and a boho look
  • And of course, Dr Martens, one of the most famous British shops in London, with a full collection of historic and seasonal models

When you’re done shopping, look for all the hidden gems on Carnaby Street and Soho you can find – they range from street art to food shops, and even historic streets tucked behind Carnaby Street!

When you walk all the way down Carnaby Street from Liberty of London, you will at the end of the street come across Beak Street.

We can already see that we’re entering an edgier part of Soho, where luxury clothing brands like Ganni blend with more streetwear stores.

One of my favorite clothing shops in Soho is Rag & Bone, on Beak Street, which is housed in a brightly colored building – a beautiful sight!

Other trendy shops to visit on Beak Street include:

  • Friday on My Mind: colorful and really stylish clothes!
  • Ba&sh, for edgy and sophisticated clothes

For anything luxury, a visit to Knightsbridge is a must: it’s indeed one of the most famous shopping streets in London, and one that houses Harvey Nichols, along with the glorious Harrods department store on Brompton Road.

Philippe Patek for luxury watches, Bimba y Lola, or All Saints are all shops you will find on Brompton Road.

Now, if you’re looking for luxury makeup or high-end spots to get perfume in London, I cannot recommend a visit to Harrods enough: from Huda Beauty to Penhaligons and Maison Francis Kurkdjian, Harrods has it all.

PS. When you’re done shopping, treat yourself to a cup of colorful latte and a piece of pink cake at Elan Cafe on Hans Crescent, surrounding by a gorgeous floral decor!

We’re entering more secret shopping streets with the High Road in Wood Green – since I used to live in North Finchley, Edmonton and Tottenham, I passed by Wood Green pretty often since many bus lines to Central London pass by this area.

The Wood Green neighborhood is one I actually like a lot, even if I am known for straying away from really crowded areas – it is indeed filled with shops, coffee shops, restaurants, cinemas and whatnot.

The Mall in Wood Green is one of the first places I would recommend you go shopping in London, as you have a huge TK Maxx there, with one of the biggest collections of scented candles you’ll see in a TK Maxx in London.

In addition to The Mall, you will find a few other must-visit shops on the High Road:

  • Addax, a Turkish clothing shop with absolutely stylish clothes and some of the cheapest prices in such a trendy place
  • A big Superdrug shop, always well-stocked, with lots of Nails Inc nail polish, cheap body mists, and tons of beauty products
  • River Island, which I always make a point to visit for trendy slash sophisticated shapes
  • Poundland, of course, the best budget shop you’ll ever find in London, especially with their cute stationery, lifesaving items on the daily, and the great Makeup Gallery products

With all the charity shops you’ll find on Camden High Street, from the Cancer Research to Traid Camden, the possibility of going back home without purchasing anything is quite low, to be honest.

When I know I want to go on a charity shopping spree in London, Camden Town is always one of my first destinations, along with Muswell Hill and Kentish Town, depending on whether I’m looking for second hand designer items or something more high-street/boho.

In addition to charity shops, you will find on Camden High Street many budget shops such as Poundland and Savers, and a few cute cafes perfect to work, read, or relax while having a delicious chai latte.

Then, closer to Camden Lock, you will find other streetwear shops like Criminal Damage or Size?, and many places to get souvenirs or artisan items in Buck Street Market and Stables Market.

Whenever I pop by King’s Road in Chelsea, it is because I want to check out what new second hand designer bags, clothes and accessories have been added to the collections of the Octavia Foundation or the Royal Trinity Hospice.

However, if King’s Road is considered one of the best shopping streets in London, it is also because you will find mid-budget and luxury shops such as Reiss, Sandro, Anthropologie, Ba&sh, Jigsaw…

And so many more!

There are, in addition, a lot of cute bakeries and instagrammable cafes in Chelsea: Hagen, Bluebird, and Peggy Porschen are all located in the surroundings.

Those in search of antiques and vintage shops would do well to stroll down Portobello Road, in Notting Hill – this is where you will find some unique items, from homeware to jewelry, and from jackets to shoes!

It’s not a secret that Portobello Road houses one of the best markets in London – savory treats elbow old cameras, and you can easily lose yourself for a half day there.

I mainly spend time around Portobello Road to check out the charity shops in Notting Hill, as there are quite a few on this street, and since we’re in one of the poshest areas of London, there are lots of second hand designer items there!

The High Road in North Finchley is a large, long street on which I spent a lot of time – some of my favorite cafes in North London are located there.

Since North Finchley is a really local area, few people know that the High Road is actually one of the best shopping streets in London, especially when it comes to charity shopping.

You will find about a dozen charity shops there, which include the Cancer Research, the British Heart Foundation, as well as more secret shops, like The Bothy.

In these, you might come across the odd designer bit, and I have gotten some incredible vintage and retro clothes there, perfect for a 90s look!

Housing several of Shoreditch’s best markets, Brick Lane is a great place to visit whether you’re looking for incredible vintage bits, tasty street food from all over the world, or even books at the Brick Lane Bookshop.

The Brick Lane Vintage Market is one of my favorite places to stop by for inspiration before I get a huge Neapolitan pizza at Sleazy Pizza, and as you walk down the street from Bethnal Green Road, you will find a few noteworthy shops of all kinds:

We’ve got a very different vibe from the colorful Brick Lane to the historic Camden Passage – the latter dates back to the medieval era, and still boasts that small town slash village feel.

Camden Passage is renowned for its vintage and antiques shops, and is located in Angel, right off Islington High Street, another one of the must-visit shopping streets in London.

In Camden Passage, you will also find lots of unique fashion and food shops, which include Le Coq Epicier for French food and Bird Blend for tea, both of which are great locations if you’re looking to buy food gifts in London.
