It’s funny how North London often brings up King’s Cross, Regent’s Park, and Camden Town when people first think of visiting.
But if you’re willing to dig a little deeper, you’ll stumble upon gems like Camden Passage in Islington.
This charming pedestrian street, tucked between Angel and Highbury & Islington stations, is packed with history.
Once an agricultural market in the 18th century, it’s now a vibrant neighborhood full of antique shops, vintage finds, and even a splash of street art.
Make sure to grab a coffee and pastry at Redemption Roasters, one of North London’s best study spots, before wandering the passage.
After soaking up Camden Passage, you’ve got choices:

While you’re there, don’t miss the Kingfisher Café, tucked right by the canal: open Wednesday to Sunday from 10 am, it serves artisan coffee, pastries, bagels, and light lunches.
Grab a treat and enjoy the serene views—there’s nothing like watching the canal life drift by after a stroll through the park.

Secret Places to Visit in North London: Art Deco Grand Arcade, North Finchley
Since I used to live in North Finchley, I’m well-aware of all the amazing charity shops that dot the area; did you know that hidden in plain sight, there’s a rare 1930s Art Deco gem?
The Grand Arcade was once a bustling shopping hub, now, beneath its iconic glass roof, you’ll find just a few shops, the most interesting if you’re into unique shops being The Green Room, where you can find plenty of affordable gems.
The shopping arcade was added to Barnet’s local heritage list in 2022, and if some units are in need of attention, it’s still worth a visit to experience this beautiful slice of Art Deco in London.
Best Hidden Gems in North London: The French Market, Whetstone
If you’re in North London and craving a bit of France, check out The French Market in Whetstone, not that far from North Finchley.
It’s run by three French friends and offers fresh croissants, sourdough, and all the classic pastries you’d expect.
Beyond the bakery, you’ll find great cheeses, mustards, jams, and more—perfect for a quick lunch or a picnic.
It’s a proper little slice of Paris in London, just a short walk from Totteridge & Whetstone Station. Definitely worth a visit!
Best Hidden Gems in North London: Carreras Cigarette Factory, Mornington Crescent
When walking down from Camden High Street and past Mornington Crescent, you’ll notice a wonderful Egyptian-inspired building built in the late 1920s, that of the former Carreras Cigarette Factory.
You can’t miss it; it stands out because of its giant black cats (a nod to their famous “Black Cat” cigarettes) at the entrance, and lots of smaller cat details all over the place.
Now called Greater London House, the building stopped being a factory in the 1960s and turned into offices; restoration in the 90s brought back all the cool Egyptian details; one of those really cool local London symbols!
Best Hidden Gems in North London UK: Holly Village, Highgate
There are some really lovely little villages hidden inside London, and Holly Village in Highgate is definitely one of the most distinctive.
With its Victorian architecture and lush greenery, it feels like a peaceful retreat from the city buzz.
Built between 1865 and 1884 by Henry Astley Darbishire, Holly Village is a collection of private homes.
You can explore more of Highgate’s beautiful streets too, but keep it quiet — it’s a real neighborhood where people live.
Close by is Highgate Cemetery, one of London’s Seven Magnificent Cemeteries and another true hidden gem.
Still, if you want a serene spot with stunning Renaissance and Gothic architecture, Holly Village delivers that calm atmosphere we all crave in London’s busy streets.
Best Things to Do in North London: Visit Crouch End & Crouch End Clock Tower
One of London’s most secret and beautiful neighborhoods, Crouch End has a lively, artsy vibe.
It reminds me a bit of Hampstead, with its independent shops, cozy bookshops, and pretty cafes.
I love finding hidden gems near the Tube’s ends, but if I can avoid long rides, even better—Crouch End feels like a sweet spot not too far from central London.
Don’t miss the Clock Tower, built in 1895 to celebrate Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee—a real local treasure.
While you’re there, grab a coffee at one of the cute cafes, then head over to nearby Alexandra Park to enjoy the rest of your day.

Muswell Hill is one of North London’s poshest spots, packed with independent shops, cozy coffee places, and tasty food joints like Franco Manca and Planet Organic.
If you’re after unique gifts, Londonworks—one of my favorite concept stores—calls Muswell Hill home, making it a great place to start your Christmas shopping.
For photographers, the area’s mix of history and charm offers stunning shots, especially in spring and autumn.
If you usually don’t go past Camden Town, Muswell Hill is a hidden gem worth discovering—sophisticated and perfect for a relaxed, romantic day out.

If you’re into architecture and history, North London has some of the city’s most famous cemeteries — two of my favorites are Abney Park in Stoke Newington and Highgate Cemetery in Highgate.
Abney Park is a peaceful spot where you can wander winding paths, surrounded by unique tombs and eerie sculptures, all wrapped in a quiet, natural setting.
It’s one of the most unusual places to visit in London and a perfect escape after exploring Stoke Newington’s village-like streets.
Highgate Cemetery, on the other hand, is known for its stunning Gothic architecture and is divided into East and West sections. It’s home to famous figures like Karl Marx, who actually has two tombs there — one older, one newer.

Camden Town is full of unique shops, and one of the best hidden gems has to be Sknfed, right across from Camden Market.
I’ve talked a lot about London’s best makeup stores before — after all, I used to be a makeup artist — but skincare, especially vegan skincare, doesn’t get enough love.
Sknfed’s products come in the cutest, rustic-style packaging. Their shampoos, face moisturizers, and body butters would make perfect Christmas gifts.
The Camden shop is roomy, so you can take your time exploring. It only opened a few months ago, so it’s still pretty under the radar.
And trust me, their Shea butter lip balm is honestly life changing — definitely worth trying!
Best Hidden Gems in North London: Hampstead Pergola & Hill Gardens
I’ve only been to Hampstead Pergola and Hill Gardens a couple of times because it’s a bit tricky to get to, but it’s a quiet little escape from Central London’s craziness.
Built in the 20th century, the Pergola is one of those spots everyone’s snapping photos of lately — yet somehow it never feels crowded.
You’ll find winding paths, springtime wisteria, and lush greenery, plus some of the most beautiful Roman-style columns I’ve seen around London.
Hill Gardens nearby is just as lovely, with neat lawns and a peaceful pond where you can chill and read for a while.
Best Hidden Gems in North London: Visit Myddelton House Gardens, Enfield
Enfield’s way up north, past Tottenham, but it’s definitely worth the trip if you want to get off the usual London path.
You’ll find cute little cafés, one of the biggest TK Maxx shops in the city, and some great halal restaurants too.
One real hidden gem here is Myddelton House Gardens. Built back in 1818, it’s full of secret gardens and beautiful Victorian glasshouses packed with exotic plants.
It used to be home to Edward Augustus Bowles, a famous plant lover, and now there’s a small museum showcasing his collections and botanical artwork.
If you’re craving some peace and greenery, the Walled Garden here is a perfect spot to unwind and escape the city noise for a bit.
Beautiful Hidden Gems in North London: Chalcot Square, Primrose Hill
Chalcot Square in Primrose Hill is one of those colorful hidden gems in North London you shouldn’t miss. It’s full of charm and character, with Chalcot Crescent nearby—famous for appearing in the Paddington movie.
Stroll down Chalcot Crescent and you’ll see the bright, colorful houses on one side, with Chalcot Square right ahead.
Even though you’ll spot this place on Pinterest and blogs, it still feels like a quiet, residential spot. I’ve rarely seen influencers around, probably because it’s a bit of a walk from Chalk Farm Tube station.
But trust me, once you get there, the vibrant houses in Primrose Hill will stick with you. It’s the kind of place that just feels like a little colorful, happy secret in the city.
Best Hidden Gems in North London: Falkland Road, Bonny Street, Kelly Street in Camden & Kentish Town
Camden’s Bonny Street is a quiet little lane with a row of colorful houses. It’s close to Camden Town Overground but, like Chalcot Square, you won’t find many people around most of the time.
If you’re after some of the best hidden gems in North London, though, Kentish Town takes it up a notch.
Kentish Town has some truly unique colorful streets that stand out even compared to spots in South Kensington, Notting Hill or Chelsea.

We’ve already talked about Enfield and Enfield Town, but here’s another cool spot for anyone into architecture — the Enfield Market Cross.
Enfield’s roots go way back to medieval times as a market town, and you can still see that history in its streets and buildings.
The Market Cross you’ll find in the town’s market square is Grade II-listed and was built to replace the original medieval cross that stood there long ago.
So really, you get two hidden gems in Enfield: the Market Cross in the square, and another one over at Myddelton House Gardens.
Best Hidden Gems in North London: Home Bargains, B&M, Poundstretcher and Wilko
What’s cool about London is that if you’re on a tight budget—maybe you just moved here—you can still find shops where you can treat yourself without breaking the bank.
Looking for Yankee Candle dupes or similar scented candles that smell just as good but cost way less? You’re covered.

Places like B&M in Tottenham, Home Bargains, and Wilko in Edmonton have pretty much everything you need to make your home smell great without spending a fortune.

I’ve always been drawn to London’s Japanese gardens, starting with the now-famous Kyoto Garden in Holland Park.
But did you know Regent’s Park has its own Japanese Garden Island? It’s got all the classic touches — little bridges, traditional sculptures, and waterfalls that really shine in spring.
London may be all concrete and brick, but spots like this prove you can still find peaceful waterfalls and even lakes here.
You can’t swim in the Japanese Garden Island, but it’s a great place to unwind — and despite Regent’s Park being well-known, this little corner still feels like a hidden gem in North London.
Beautiful Hidden Gems in North London: Stoke Newington Church Street
Stoke Newington Church Street, just near lively Dalston, is a cool mix of posh, artsy, and full of life.
You’ll find plenty of cute cafes, indie restaurants, unique boutiques, and some of the best charity shops around. Honestly, the shops alone make it worth hopping on the Tube.
I only really noticed the street art there a few years ago after moving to Tottenham—it’s everywhere and adds so much character.
With galleries, markets, vintage spots, plus tasty coffee shops and bakeries, Italian and Turkish food, Stoke Newington has so much to offer it’s hard to pick where to start!
Best Hidden Gems in North London: Alexandra Palace & Alexandra Park
When I lived in North Finchley, I often passed through Muswell Hill and Alexandra Park—both perfect spots for catching those amazing London sunsets.
Alexandra Palace, or Ally Pally as locals call it, is a grand Victorian exhibition hall that overlooks the city and gives you free, stunning views if you’re over the usual Primrose Hill crowd.
The park itself has some decent places to grab a bite, plus an ice rink that’s pure Christmas vibes, and it’s great for families too.
Getting there is easy—just hop on a bus from Muswell Hill, which is a pretty posh area known for its charity shops packed with affordable secondhand designer finds. Definitely worth a visit.

I used to roller skate a lot in London before moving to Barcelona and breaking my ankle—after that, I never skated again.
But if you’re after a cool covered spot to skate in London, Roller Nation is a must-visit.
It’s tucked away in Bruce Grove, between Stoke Newington and Tottenham (closer to Tottenham), and it’s honestly one of North London’s best hidden gems.
Entry’s about £10, and the vibe changes depending on the day, but you’ll always find great music and slushies on offer.
If you want a cheap, fun date idea or just a way to meet people, Roller Nation is perfect—especially when you’re living in London on a budget and making friends isn’t always easy.

Best Hidden Gem Food Spots in North London: Emmanuel’s Cake Shop, North Finchley
I only found Emmanuel’s cake shop after moving to North Finchley, and honestly, I couldn’t believe I’d never heard of it before.
The terrace is super cute and totally Instagram-worthy — imagine wisteria and clean, white decor giving off a peaceful vibe.
It’s nothing like the maximalist spots like Elan Cafe, but the cakes here are seriously delicious. Not too sweet, with loads of fruit, Biscoff, chocolate, and cream flavors.
Definitely one of the best places to grab cake in North Finchley, and a must-know if you’re ever around that part of North London!
Best Hidden Food Gems in North London: Camden Bakery, Camden
Camden has loads of places to eat, and it’s packed with cute bakeries too.
One of my go-tos used to be Camden Bakery on Camden High Street, right in the middle of colorful street art.
I visited it a lot when I lived in North Finchley, though less so after moving to West Hampstead and spending more time around Kilburn High Road.
Still, if you want a cozy spot to write or just a massive slice of cake, Camden Bakery never disappoints. The staff are always friendly, and the pastries? Seriously good.
Plus, around the corner, you’ve got hidden gems like Amy Winehouse street art, quirky charity shops, and budget-friendly spots like TK Maxx, Poundland, and Savers.
You can easily spend a full day in Camden Town and never get bored.
Best Hidden Gems in North London UK: Le Rif, Seven Sisters
When I lived in Seven Sisters, I’d often head to N4 Library in Finsbury Park to work on my laptop for the day. It’s one of the best free libraries around.
On those walks, I’d pass by Le Rif Cafe & Restaurant, a Moroccan spot that also serves a few Algerian specialties.
As someone half French, half Moroccan, finding good Moroccan food in London isn’t always easy. I’ve tried couscous and tagine at Le Rif, and they’re seriously tasty.
They don’t openly advertise being halal, but the owner confirmed it when I visited. Still, it’s worth double-checking if that’s important to you.
Finsbury Park might have a different vibe from places like Highgate or Muswell Hill, but it’s packed with solid cafes, bakeries, and restaurants.
Plus, the charity shops there are a hidden treasure if you’re on a budget. You can find quality clothes and accessories for just a couple of pounds.
