I’ve written this guide of the best things to do in Camden Town for newcomers, but you’ll certainly find a few hidden gems here.
Whether you’re looking for free things to do in London or a couple of the best restaurants in Camden, I’ve got you covered!
18 Best Things to Do in Camden Town For The New Londoner

I’ve always very much loved the whole Camden Town/Market/Lock area.
I love seeing the water there, some of the best street food in London, and the shops.
I love paying a visit to Cafe de Nata, one of the best Portuguese pastry shops in London.
I love seeing the colors, feeling the jewelry, notebooks and various hats and T-shirts at Camden Market.
But if I’m ever on a budget, I know that Camden Town is one of the best places to hang out in London even I don’t really want to spend.
It may happen that here and there, a tenner slips out of my wallet, though.
But you’ll see, there are plenty of cool free things to do in Camden Town, too!
Best Things to Do in Camden Town: Hansel & Gretel Shop

One of the most instagrammable shops in London, Hansel & Gretel is fabulous for greedy people.
The decor there mixes Christmas fireplace with (fake) macarons and (real) ice cream, and it’s a sight.

The prices there are not the most affordable when it comes to finding delicious ice cream in London, I’ll grant you that.
However, Hansel & Gretel is one of the most instagrammable places in London, and perfect whether you want to snap shops in front or inside the shop.

Best Things to Do in Camden Town: Amy Winehouse Statue

A few steps away from the Hansel & Gretel shop, you’ll find the Amy Winehouse statue.
It’s a tiny statue, and absolutely beautiful to see.
Another one of the best things to do in Camden in my opinion is to discover and rediscover all the Amy Winehouse street art.
There are lots of Amy Winehouse murals and graffiti in London, amazing to hunt if you’re a die hard fan.

Best Things to Do in Camden Town: Go Shopping at TK Maxx

I’ve written about the biggest TK Maxx in London some time ago, since that’s a shop in which I love buying scented candles, makeup, and shoes.
That’s mostly what I buy in this shop, and if you’re looking for quite cheap things to do in Camden, that’s one right there.
Cheap is relative, isn’t it, though?
But if you’re ever looking for amazing Sand and Fog candles, beautiful spring scents and stunning Yankee Candles for Christmas, that’s a perfect shop.

Of course, I mostly shop for the DW Home candles at TK Maxx.
However, from high-end handbags to various cool makeup brands, TK Maxx has lots to offer to new Londoners and locals alike.

Best Things to Do in Camden Town: Go Charity Shopping

Charity shopping in London is one of my favorite things to do.
You know there are plenty of really well hidden gems in London, but if there was one thing I had to choose, it would be a couple of charity shops.
You have plenty of amazing charity shops in Camden Town from Mind Camden to Cancer Research and Oxfam.
I love Mind Camden for books mostly.
I love the Oxfam shop for the clothes.
Both offer some amazing prices.
And if you’re willing to walk, you’ll find some of the best charity shops in Kentish Town not too far from Camden Town station.

Best Things to Do in Camden Town: Go Budget Shopping

I’ve talked about charity shopping, I’ve talked about candle shopping, now’s the time to talk about everyday shopping.
One of my favorite things to do in Camden, on Camden High Street more precisely, is to pay a visit to the budget shops.
There are plenty of budget shops in London from Poundland to Savers, and these are exactly the two shops you’ll find on Camden High Street.
For shampoo to nail polish, and from makeup to supplements, you have everything there.
I do consider that going to Savers is always a good idea, especially since that’s one of the shops you can get cheap Yankee Candles in the UK.
Always good to know when you’re in need of study motivation and don’t want to spend 30 quid on Yankee Candle!

Best Things to Do in Camden Town: Pay a Visit to Amnesty Bookshop

The Amnesty Bookshop is one of the coolest charity bookshops in London.
You’ll need a good few minutes’ walk to reach it from Camden Town, as Amnesty Bookshop is actually located in Kentish Town.
However, there are also plenty of colorful places around, like Bonny Street, Falkland Road and Kelly Street, so don’t miss them, really.
With the Amnesty Bookshop, you one of the cheapest used bookshops in London, and well, book shopping is always a good idea.
Isn’t it?
Also, closeby, you have one of the best pho in London at Pho Ta Kentish Town.
I wrote a complete Pho Ta review some time ago, and if you love pho and Vietnamese food, do check out the place!

Best Things to Do in Camden Town: Check out the Street Art

All around Camden High Street and Camden Market, you can find plenty of street art.
It’s some of the best street art in London, cute, provocative, controversial – everything you’d want it to be.
Of course, the street art in Shoreditch and Brick Lane is amazing too, but you really have lots of art pieces all around Camden Market.

On Camden High Street, where you’ll find lots of piercing shops and places to buy (pseudo) vintage clothes, you have a few sculptures on the front of the buildings.

Seeing these huge sculptures always brings me a feeling that anything is possible, for some reason.
Also, one of the best Pret in London to study is located really close, if you need to bring your laptop with you.
I’ve written about lots of cafes to work in London already, but there are some cool ones in Camden like Pret and the Coffee Tree I’ll mention later in this guide.

Best Things to Do in Camden Town: See the Umbrella Street

There are many cute umbrella streets in the world, and the one in Camden Market is incredible.
While you can see a multicolor umbrella street in Istanbul, and another one in Paris, the one in Camden is orange, yellow, and red.
It’s one of the most instagrammable places in London, so when you’re looking for good photo spots in Camden, it’s one to keep in mind!

Best Things to Do in Camden Town: Camden Stables Market Shops

It would be a tad tricky to tell you about the best shops in Camden Town, although I know I would probably start with Skinny Dip, which I love.
And probably Superdrug – after all, it’s one of the best makeup stores in London!
In Camden Market and Stables Market, you have plenty of small shops perfect if it’s your first time in London and you want to bring some goodies back home.
You’ll find lots of jewelry there, as well as clothes, hats, denim, and many more things!

Best Things to Do in Camden Town: Spot the Colorful Houses

I’ve written a full post to the most colorful streets in Camden Town, and I’ve included a few spots in Kentish Town too.
From Leverton Street to Falkland Road and Falkland Place, there are about 9 or 10 streets with multicolor rows of houses.

When getting out of Kentish Town station, take a right, then a right again.
Leverton Street is the first road on the left, and all around it, you’ll find some really colorful houses.
I don’t know about you, but when I only want to do free things in Camden Town, I’ll always pass by Kentish Town.
But there’s also a really colorful street in Camden Town, Bonny Street – it’s really, really cute!

Best Things to Do in Camden Town: Chill at Camden Lock

Camden Lock is one of my favorite places to see nature in London.
There are lots of cute gardens in London, but seeing water is what makes me feel the best (I’m a water sign after all).
You can walk along Regent’s Canal from Camden Lock and reach many different neighborhoods in London while walking, from King’s Cross to Mile End and Lewisham.

On the bridge near Camden Lock, you can also find some street art, graffitis and messages there too.
Just a really cool spot when you’re just looking for relaxing things to do in Camden Town, really.
Best Things to Do in Camden Town: Max Orient Chinese Buffet

I wrote a complete review of the Max Orient Asian buffet some time ago, and if you’re getting hungry at some point, it’s an affordable restaurant to stop by.
I think the all-you-can-eat buffet costs something like 11 or 12 pounds at this point, and the unlimited drinks cost something like 3 pounds.
So basically, all in all, you have one of the most filling buffets in London.
Tasty food, a spacious restaurant and cool atmosphere make it one of the best restaurants in Camden Town in my opinion, and I keep visiting again and again.

Best Things to Do in Camden Town: Spot the Rainbow Crosswalk

One of my favorite things to do in Camden Town is taking a picture of the rainbow crosswalks.
It’s pretty funny, every time I’m in Camden Town, I’ll just take a picture.
Close to these rainbow crosswalks, you have one of the best fish and chips in London at Poppies.
And while it’s not the cheapest fish and chips ever, it’s the tastiest, the most incredible.
The best.

Best Things to Do in Camden Town: Relax at The Coffee Tree

The Coffee Tree is one of the best cafes to study in Camden, if you tend to bring your laptop with you.
It’s also one of the best places to get delicious coffee and tasty cakes, though.
Really instagrammable, a cute cafe located not too far from Poundland, TK Maxx and Oxfam, on Camden High Street.

Best Things to Do in Camden Town: Spot the Beautiful Architecture

I’ve always felt very impressed with the architecture you can find in Camden Market.
I love natural bricks, and the shops there are actually old mews.
For those looking for beautiful mews in London, you’ll be happy to know that, well…
I mean, there’s a market called Stables Market there.

You’ll find other shops there, with Dr Martens, Cyberdog and other tiny shops selling socks, prints, and souvenirs.

Best Things to Do in Camden Town: Get a Pizza at Rossopomodoro

Rossopomodoro serves some of the best Neapolitan pizza in London.
When I used to live in Rome, I would often pay a visit to Rossopomodoro, because while I love Roman pizza, Neapolitan is still the best for me.
I love everything related to Italy, so when I can find new pizza spots or new Italian cafes in London, you’d think I’ve just won the jackpot.
The Margherita is always my go-to when visiting an Italian restaurant, whether we’re talking about Rossopomodoro, Franco Manca or Pizza Pilgrims.
And if you’re ever looking for cool things to do in Soho, there’s also a Pizza Pilgrims there too, by the way.
For Rossopomodoro, you’ll have to walk until Covent Garden.
But since you can also do plenty of things in Covent Garden, see – you’ll always end up with a good slice of pizza!

Best Things to Do in Camden Town: Street Food at Camden Market

Getting street food in Camden Market is one of the coolest things you can do in London, especially if you like discovering new flavors.
For instance, if you’re ever looking for halal Mexican food, there’s a stand there called Meathead.
If you’re looking for Chinese food, Thai food or even a single slice of pizza, Camden Lock and Camden Market are filled with stands.
They’re pretty affordable, too, so if you’re visiting or living in London on a budget, Camden Market is a great spot to pick.

Best Things to Do in Camden Town: Cyberdog

Cyberdog Camden Town is one of the coolest places you can go for shopping in London.
Notice I didn’t say cheap shopping.
Cyberdog is one of the most instagrammable shops in London, and offers everything neon and rave-related.
There aren’t many neon places in London, but if you need your fix one day, Cyberdog is definitely where you need to go.
From male to female clothes, from neon makeup to hats and bags, there’s literally everything you need there to craft a cool fashion style.
