A local’s review of Bageriet in Covent Garden, Central London – the cutest Swedish bakery to visit in London in the fall and Christmas for cinnamon buns!
Every corner of London is filled with cute bakeries and instagrammable coffee shops, but if there’s one spot you have to pop by, it’s Bageriet in Covent Garden.
I happen to absolutely love cinnamon buns, and am always on the lookout for a new spot to try them – so far, only a couple of places have stolen my heart, and among them, Bageriet.
The super cute bakery is one of the only Swedish bakeries in London – you’ll have more luck trying to find Italian cannoli than a proper Scandinavian cinnamon roll, to be honest.
But once you visit this hidden gem in Covent Garden, you’ll be sold – just like I was!

I’ve known about the Bageriet bakery for quite a few years now.
Its location on Rose Street, one of London’s secret alleys, enhance the feeling that you’re entering another dimension when passing the bakery’s threshold.
Swedish Bakery in London: Bageriet Covent Garden Location
Bageriet is really centrally located, but I’d say you kind of have to know where you’re going to find it.
Near Rose Street, you have another one of Central London’s prettiest streets, Floral Street, also filled with shops and small eateries.

Swedish Bakery in London: Bageriet Covent Garden Atmosphere
Dubbing Bageriet the cutest bakery in Central London is definitely a euphemism.
The atmosphere is warm and cozy, helped, maybe, by the fact that you have only two tables out, and two tables inside.
According to the season, Bageriet has a different decor – around Christmas time, burning candles are added, giving yet a warmer atmosphere to the bakery.
We’re here in one of the smallest bakeries in London, which means that the tables are often already taken when you arrive around 9 or 10 am.
However, the small space is well organized, with typical Swedish jam jars, spices, and other almond treats on the tight shelves.
Swedish Bakery in London: Bageriet Covent Garden Menu
I’ve met many Danish and Swedish people over the years I’ve spent living in London, and well, just like me with French pastries, they were looking for proper Scandinavian cakes.
Which is normal, come to think of it – London is one of the biggest melting pots in the world, and while British food’s quality has improved over the years, we all end up missing food from home.
Whether you’re looking for cinnamon buns (the real, fluffy, crispy and warm kind!), Kallongrotta or Prinsesstårta, Sweden’s national cake, Bageriet has it all and more, including traditional bread types.
In addition to pastries, cakes and bread, Bageriet Covent Garden also sells a myriad of other products you can take home to make the same kind of coffee served in the bakery/coffee shop.
That includes their coffee beans, ‘roasted the Swedish way’, as well as small nut and chocolate-based treats.

Bageriet Covent Garden Review: What We Ordered
During my last visit to London (probably the last one before I move to London again next year), I brought a friend with me to Bageriet – the best friend I could have brought there, too, since she must be as in love with cinnamon buns as I am.
By 10 am, the bakery was packed with people queuing and all the tables were taken, which led us to eat on one of Covent Garden’s benches on King Street.
Since every visit to the Bageriet bakery has ended up with me eating on the Covent Garden piazza or the King Street benches, I did not mind and actually, since some of London’s prettiest Christmas decorations are located there, it’s rather enjoyable.
Cinnamon Buns at Bageriet
I’ve said it before, in plenty of articles actually, and I’ll say it again: the cinnamon buns at Bageriet are otherworldly.
Coming in the morning means you’ll most probably be able to enjoy a warm cinnamon bun, which still retains moisture while offering fluff and crisp.
Those at Bageriet Covent Garden have small pieces of sugar sprinkled on top, and are therefore different from the ones you’d eat from Buns from Home on nearby Long Acre, or those at Bread Ahead Bakery.

Prinsesstårta at Bageriet
There is absolutely no way I would ever visit Bageriet without ordering two specific items: a cinnamon roll, of course, but also a slice of Prinsesstårta.
At Christmas time, on top of the usual green Prinsesstårta, Bageriet also offers the same cake with red almond paste instead of green – the taste is the same, it’s just different aesthetically different.

Prinsesstårta is made with whipped cream, pastry cream, genoise and almond paste, and that’s simply all I love most in the world brought in one cake.
Anyone who loves cream cake should try Prinsesstårta at least once, which isn’t only a beautiful cake, but also a piece of Swedish history and culture.

Chai Latte at Bageriet
For the first time since I have known and visited Bageriet, I have ordered a drink – a simple chai latte, which is one of my favorite Starbucks fall drinks to start with, and the perfect addition to a fall or winter day.
The least you can say about Bageriet’s chai latte is that it’s creamy.
The spices were not overpowering, but could still be felt properly, while the oh-so-creamy milk softened the taste beautifully.

Bageriet Covent Garden Review: Final Thoughts
All in all, I spent a little under 25 pounds for two cinnamon rolls, a slice of Prinsesstårta, a chai latte and a cup of tea, which makes Bageriet a medium-priced bakery in my book.
This is a good place to visit to treat yourself with a fresh breakfast before you head off to Covent Garden’s study cafes, for instance – something I’ve done quite a lot in the past.
There are few really good bakeries and cafes in Covent Garden, and if you’re looking for the cutest, you have to have Bageriet on your bucket list.
If you’re looking for otherwise cheap eats in Central London, you will find them, and I’ve told you much about my favorite places nearby, too, like Old Chang Kee and their Singaporean curry puffs, for instance.
But if you’ve never tried Swedish pastries, or if you just miss the taste of home, you can hardly do better than Bageriet.

Every time I pop by Bageriet while shopping in Covent Garden, I just wish the bakery was a little bit bigger, and then I realize that it would lose a bit of its charm.
If you get the chance to find a free table when visiting the bakery, hold on to it and savor the buttery, the creamy, and the sweet of the incredible cakes you’ll find there.
And if you’re down to try something different next time, there are a few Italian cafes in London that are also very much worthwhile.
