A local’s guide to the best food spots in Borough Market, London Bridge – from breakfast to dinner, these are restaurants and street food stalls to visit ASAP!

London Bridge, with its mix of nature with Southbank, hidden corners with Guy’s Hospital, Vinegar Yard and Bermondsey Street, is one of the most visited areas of London.

But is there really one spot more frequented there than the famous Borough Market?

I’m not too sure.

Nestled under industrial arches which tickle one side of the Southwark Cathedral, the London food market is one that offers fresh strawberries, specialty coffee, juicy burgers, fudge and ice cream for days.

Since I spend quite a lot of time in London Bridge, especially at the Pret a Manger on Borough High Street and the nearby free library to type away on my keyboard, Borough Market is a place I almost always pop by when in the neighborhood.

If you only have one hour to spend in London Bridge, do visit the market – you never know which new kind of street food you’ll fall in love with!

Places to Eat in Borough Market: Monmouth Coffee

Monmouth Coffee is as well-known for their delicious cups of thick specialty coffee as for their sustainable activities – indeed, they do not serve takeaway coffee in paper cups.

Other branches can be found around town, including at Spa Terminus in Bermondsey, and walking around the London market, I love sipping on a cup of their strong coffee.

Bring your own cup to take part in their sustainable initiative, or stay in to drink in a ceramic cup before you walk around the market and Southbank!

Places to Eat in Borough Market: Bread Ahead Bakery

Bread Ahead Bakery in Borough Market is a place I’ve been visiting for years – their filled doughnuts follow seasonal recipes, but they always have classics for sale.

The custard doughnuts are some of my favorites, but if you can get your hands on a tangy jam, honeycomb, pistachio or coconut doughnut, I’d definitely recommend you go for it.

There are a few other branches in town, including a very spacious Bread Ahead in Wembley, one on Pavilion Road, and one in South Kensington – the vibe is always somewhat rustic, and their baked goods… simply unforgettable.

Places to Eat in Borough Market: Fish!

Fish and chips is something I swear by, no matter where I live.

Even if I spend half of the year in other cities, mainly Rome and Paris, I never forget about my beloved fish and chips.

There’s something utterly interesting about how simple, filling and oh-so-British fish and chips is in London; it’s a dish you have to try at least once in your life.

At Fish! Borough Market, you’ll find more than this classic dish – in the restaurant (almost always crowded, for that matter), from niçoise salad to chargrilled squid, you’re able to try various facets of sea life.

Have you ever tried goat’s milk ice cream? No? Well, now’s the time to try it.

With gorgeous flavors, slightly tangy for that matter, ranging from rhubarb to quirky Cherry Bakewell, Greedy Goat is one of my favorite spots to get ice cream in London.

Get the charcoal cone, and you’re sure to have found a new must eat spot, right in the heart of London Bridge!

Places to Eat in Borough Market: Northfield Farm

Northfield Farm in Borough Market specialties on traditional and rare breed meat, and there, close to the Bread Ahead Bakery, is where you can find absolutely delicious salt beef sandwiches.

I told you in my Fitzrovia itinerary, as well as various posts here on The Working Line, that I love visiting London’s bagel shops, which I pop by exclusively for their salt beef.

There’s something traditional, almost historical to the way farms and restaurants work meat in and around London, and at Northfield Farm, you’ll find some of the best salt beef in town.

Places to Eat in Borough Market: Mallow

While Mallow is present in Borough Market, with an exterior you can’t miss with its floral mural on the restaurant, there’s also another branch in Canary Wharf, if you ever pop by this gorgeous neighborhood (and I recommend you do).

Mallow focuses on a completely plant-based menu, with gorgeous flavors which range from confit aubergine to vegan dumplings and curry flatbread.

The cuisine at Mallow Borough Market drags influences from all kinds of cultures, making it an interesting spot if you’re ever looking for places to eat in London Bridge.

The keyword here is minimalism, and if you’re interested in trying out something out of your comfort zone, whether for a romantic date or a casual lunch, that’s a place to visit again – and again.

Places to Eat in Borough Market: Franco Manca

Franco Manca is a Neapolitan pizza spot I’ve been visiting for years – the first time I ever visited was the Bishopsgate branch, near Liverpool Street station.

Then, from Bermondsey to Kilburn High Street and the Muswell Hill branch, I lunched and dined at various Franco Manca restaurants, always enjoying the fact that it’s one of the cheapest eats in London.

My go-to is always, always the Margherita with a simple drink, and even if Franco Manca is hidden behind Borough Market, it’s a must-visit – especially if you’re living in London on a tight budget.
