Looking for the best Moroccan restaurants in London is clearly one of my passions, what with being half French and half Moroccan.

I was born into Moroccan food culture, and if you’re like me, you’ve probably looked for halal Moroccan restaurants in London quite a bit – and haven’t found much.

Well, a few years ago, it was indeed very difficult to find all the Moroccan dishes and pastries that I have grown up with.

Yet, I have managed to find for you some of the best Moroccan restaurants in London – around Covent Garden, Hammersmith, and Mayfair.

I have my personal favorites, like Azou in Hammersmith, that I have been visiting for years. It offers a laidback experience in a colorful, Moroccan-style decor.

Mamounia Lounge in Mayfair, on the other hand, will get you all dressed up and ready to have one of the poshest experiences in terms of Moroccan food.

But I’m getting ahead of myself.

In the past, I’ve written quite a bit about the best halal food in London so far; you’ve probably discovered new halal Japanese food, halal Mexican restaurants, and the best halal Chinese in London here.

Since places to eat makes up the bulk of our everyday life – and since Moroccan culture is tied to my very being, it only made sense for me to share with you the best halal Moroccan restaurants in London.

So let’s get to it!

8 Best Moroccan Restaurants in London With Halal Food

Before we get started and find you the best Moroccan restaurants in London with halal food, a little disclaimer:

I pay much attention to the halal status of the restaurants and the meats used.

I will tell you when I find HMC halal restaurants in London, and will also let you know if all the meats or only a portion are halal.

In addition, whenever pork and/or alcohol are served, I will clearly indicate that.

However, and as usual, I would always recommend getting in touch with the halal restaurants mentioned.

They can change suppliers without notice, so a phone call, an email, or a look on their website/social media should confirm the halal meat status.

Later on, I will write other posts about the best halal Turkish food, halal Thai restaurants in London, and other types of cuisines and places in the city to grab the best halal food.

For now, we’re going to stay on delicious Moroccan staples, that I’ve grown up with and can’t wait to share with you!

Best Moroccan Restaurants in London: Mamounia Lounge Mayfair

In terms of halal Moroccan restaurants in London, it only makes sense to mention Mamounia Lounge.

Serving the best halal food in Mayfair, Mamounia Lounge mixes Moroccan, Lebanese, and Middle-Eastern flavors.

Translated into traditional dishes like marinated mechoui, delicious harira soup, grilled mixed platters, and other chicken kafta, the Moroccan dishes take on all the flavors of Moroccan spices, with a note of Middle-Eastern culture.

The result is genius, tradition elevated to a colorful yet posh setting in the middle of Mayfair.

If you’re looking for romantic halal Moroccan restaurants in London, Mamounia Lounge is the perfect place to take your significant other.

All meat served is halal at Mamounia Lounge, with no pork on the menu. However, they do serve alcohol – with mocktails available for Muslim patrons.

This is one of the only Moroccan restaurants in London that used to offer halal afternoon tea, but they stopped after the pandemic.

However, Mamounia Lounge does not offer afternoon tea anymore.

Still, it’s the perfect smart casual dress up restaurant for lunch – or better yet, a really romantic dinner.

If you were looking for fancy halal restaurants in Mayfair, jackpot.

I mentioned Shrigley’s Moroccan Cuisine on The Working Line already, since it’s one of the best halal brunch spots in Central London.

Located close to London Bridge and Borough Market, Shrigley’s Moroccan Cuisine is one of the only halal Moroccan restaurants in London that offers a really toned-down experience.

That’s the restaurant you’ll want to try for breakfast, brunch, and lunch.

In my opinion, the experience is best at breakfast or lunch, as Shrigley’s Moroccan Cuisine, despite a small restaurant, is bustling with people looking to discover Moroccan food culture.

Ever looked for a perfect halal Full English breakfast in London?

They’ve got it.

Moreover, kafta, chicken royal, falafel, and Moroccan side dishes colored with Britishness, like jacket potatoes, swiftly join the menu.

Shrigley’s Moroccan Cuisine offers some of the most affordable halal food in London, with huge portions and absolutely exquisite halal Moroccan food stunningly priced.

If you’re studying abroad and staying around London Bridge for the first time, you’re bound to try Shrigley’s Moroccan Cuisine at some point.

No pork on the menu.

Best Moroccan Restaurants in London: Oasis Lounge

Photo: Oasis Lounge

Oasis Lounge in East Finchley is probably one of the most underrated Moroccan restaurants in London.

A family-run restaurant, Oasis Lounge offers halal meats in delicious tagines, meshwi, and mixed grilled platters.

There are not many halal restaurants in North London that specialize in Moroccan food culture at all, and to be honest, it’s refreshing to be able to taste it.

I used to live in North Finchley, and having Oasis Lounge so close was a foodie’s blessing.

This is a restaurant that blends Lebanese and Moroccan food cultures, with a little bit of Britishness.

If you’re ever looking for homemade halal burgers in London, they have quite a few fluffy buns with juicy patties on the menu.

However, of course, I would recommend visiting Oasis Lounge for the lamb tagines, shish taouk, and delicious kafta.

One of the most interesting dishes – and you won’t find it in any other halal Moroccan restaurant in London, is the Berber-style pizza, stone-baked, and incredibly flavorful.

Berber pizza is an exciting way of eating pizza that is basically dough filled with meat recipes that you would only find in Morocco.

It is, to say the least, an important part of Moroccan food culture.

What with having Berber roots, I was very surprised to be able to find Berber food in the middle of London, to be honest.

With a completely halal menu and no pork on the menu, Oasis Lounge is definitely one of the best Moroccan restaurants in London, and its authentic, rustic setting will let you discover a bit of Morocco’s traditional hospitality.

Souk Medina is a Moroccan restaurant in London around Covent Garden, and probably one of the most famous and authentic of all.

If you’re looking for romantic halal eats in London that’ll make you travel, Souk Medina’s decoration will be the first step towards Morocco.

In my opinion, this is the perfect Moroccan restaurant in Central London.

I especially love when halal Moroccan restaurants in London really stick to the culture, with the shapes, decoration, lanterns, and smells you can find in my country.

Lamb, chicken, beef, and fish tagines all reflect the savoir-faire of Moroccan mothers mixing spices and slow-cooking meats until they fall of the bone.

You’ve got Moroccan food culture at its best at Souk Medina.

If you’re with a vegetarian person, there are also vegetarian tagines available.

Start with hummus, falafel and labneh, and finish with a beautiful selection of baklava and Moroccan tea.

Frankly, one of the best halal Moroccan restaurants in London. No pork served, and all the meat is halal at Souk Medina.

Best Moroccan Restaurants in London: Dar Marrakech

Dar Marrakech in Stratford is one of the only halal Moroccan restaurants in London around East London.

All the meat used is halal, and the Moroccan dishes are slightly influenced by Lebanese tradition, making Dar Marrakech a somewhat North African/Middle Eastern fusion restaurant.

Usually, when you look for Moroccan restaurants in London, you’ll often find the dishes mixed with some Lebanese, Middle Eastern, and even Turkish influences for some reason.

Maybe because Moroccan food culture is less established in London than these other types of cuisines, or like Indian food.

Dar Marrakech is one of the best halal eats in London, and the calm atmosphere is enhanced by the indoor garden and mosaic scattered throughout the restaurant.

You’ve got a real piece of Moroccan culture, with colorful lanterns, lamb, chicken and kafta tagine, halal grilled meats, and seabass couscous.

My ultimate favorite wherever I dine being the Royal Couscous, with lamb, merguez and chicken, that’s one dish I’d definitely recommend.

With Dar Marrakech, you’ve got plenty of options to go meatless as well, even if Moroccan food culture dictates otherwise. BYOB restaurant.

Looking for affordable halal Moroccan restaurants in London?

Angel Tagine is one of your best bets.

Located in Angel, near Chapel Market, the North London restaurant offers some of the best dishes of Moroccan food culture at a very affordable price.

Does this mean the quality of the food is lessened?

Absolutely not.

On the contrary, Angel Tagine is run by Moroccan owner Eddine, who pays close attention to offering the most delicious tagine, couscous, briwat and Moroccan pastries.

One of the best Moroccan restaurants in London for those after tradition and authenticity.

Grilled lamb chops, chicken pastilla and briwats are some of my favorite Moroccan dishes, and being able to find my grandmother’s food at Angel Tagine is something of a miracle.

For just over a tenner, you can get some of the most authentic tagine you’ve ever eaten in your life – right in the heart of London. All the meat is halal, no pork on the menu.

Best Moroccan Restaurants in London: Azou Restaurant Hammersmith

Azou Hammersmith was one of the first halal Moroccan restaurants in London I ever visited, and I had a blast there.

I remember ordering many of the couscous and Moroccan side dishes that were, simply, a taste of my hometown in Morocco. And boy, was everything exquisite!

If you’re looking for the best Moroccan restaurant in Central London, think again.

You’ll have to travel a bit to Hammersmith in West London to find Azou, and that’s one of the best hidden gems in London for sure.

Especially when it comes to the oh-too-underrated Moroccan food culture in town.

Azou Restaurant offers shakshuka, amazing couscous with beautiful meats from melty chicken to lamb shank, pastilla, grilled sea bass, and of course, a huge selection of homemade tagines freshly prepped to order.

The decoration is one of the nicest among all the halal Moroccan restaurants I’m mentioning here today. Colorful, cozy, the family-run restaurant simply feels like home as soon as you pass the threshold.

Not one of the very fancy halal restaurants in London, but perfect for all those looking to discover Moroccan food culture.

All meats halal, no pork on the menu, alcohol is served.

Halal Moroccan Restaurants in London: Leila Ealing

Located in Ealing, Leila Restaurant is probably one of the Moroccan restaurants in London farthest from Central.

Even then, with its delicious take on Moroccan food culture, that’s a place you should visit whether you’re looking for romantic halal restaurants or places to eat with your friends and family.

With a blend of Moroccan and Middle-Eastern dishes, Leila Restaurant offers the most sumptuous tagines, couscous, and other kafta and grilled sea bass.

If you’re ever looking for halal steak in London, their mixed grilled meat platters are perfect for the meat-lovers among us.

The menu is large, and really caters to anyone who might also want to find some vegetarian goodness among all the beautiful chicken tagines and harira.

The Moroccan side dishes, combined with some Lebanese mains and even more Moroccan couscous, make Leila Ealing one of the best halal Moroccan restaurants in London.

All the food is halal, alcohol is served.
