It must be for you as well, right?

So, digital nomads, freelancers, students…

Whether you’re looking for the best cafes in Milan near the Duomo to work or something a little bit further away from the center, you’ll find here the best coffee shops to study in the beautiful, fashionable city that is Milano.

14 Best Cafes to Work in Milan (Laptop-Friendly)

In this guide, as usual, I’ve picked only the best cafes to work and study – that means that as much as possible, I’ll mention here laptop friendly cafes with free WiFi and power outlets.

If you’re planning to do a little moving around in Italy, you might see in my guide to the best cafes to work in Rome that laptop friendly cafes are still a bit rare in Italy.

The coffee culture is different, people come for a cornetto and a coffee, and then get on with their day.

But Milan is different from Rome, a bit more like London and Paris, and you will indeed find there some really good places to study.

From Starbucks cafes to coworking cafes and indie coffee shops, here are all the best cafes to work in Milan!

Best Cafes to Work in Milan: Upcycle Bike Cafe

The first great news about Upcycle Bike Cafe is that it’s one of the quirkiest cafes to work in Milan.

It’s a great mix between a coworking cafe, a breakfast place and a meeting point for bike lovers in town.

Upcycle Bike Cafe is open every day of the week from 9 am and from 10 am during the weekend, and closes pretty late so you have plenty of time to be productive with work.

However, and that’s something I always recommend whether you’re looking for laptop friendly cafes in Manhattan or South London, come as early as you can.

Upcycle Bike Cafe is indeed one of the most popular cafes to study in Milan, and it’s a widely known fact around town. Long communal tables, a friendly atmosphere and lots of seating space? Yes, please!

Best Laptop Friendly Cafe in Milan: Gogol & Company

Gogol & Company is another one of the best cafes to work in Milan, especially because it mixes everything from library to a coffee shop, and it is also a space in which you will find independent exhibitions from time to time.

Gogol & Company is open from 9 am to 9 pm almost every day of the week, except on Mondays when it’s closed, but beware, as it is closed between 2 pm and 4 pm every day too.

Gogol & Company is another one of the most popular coffee shops to work in Milan, and plenty of people come there on a daily basis – the atmosphere really is just inspiring.

You will find lots of students and freelancers not only working on their laptops (free WiFi and power outlets are available!), but also trying out their organic produce and delicious breakfast bits.

Best Cafes for Working in Milan: Coffice

Coffice isn’t a laptop friendly cafe per se, as it is also mixed with a coworking space, and it is in my opinion one of the best places to study in Milan.

The only rule at Coffice is that if you want to just stay for a couple of hours, you can do so, just purchase some coffee and get on with work.

However, if you know that you want to stay for a half day or a full day, the space does require that you get a day pass, which costs a little bit under €20.

It’s certainly aimed at digital nomads and freelancers, with power outlets all over the place and great WiFi, and if you feel more productive in minimalist spaces, that’s the one for you.

Best Cafes to Study in Milan: Pave

best cafes to work in milan italy - best cafes to study in milan - best cafe for studying near me in milan - best places to study in milan - where to work in milan with laptop - good cafes to work in milano - best laptop friendly cafes in milan for digital nomads - best study cafe in milan - best coffee shops to work in milan - pave milan

A very different vibe floats around at Pave, which is more of your local coffee shop – you will still find other people working on their laptop there.

The vibe that you feel at Pave is that which I have felt for months while studying in cafes in Rome – is ‘sunny’ a good word to describe it?

While it is not the biggest coffee shop to work in Milan, it’s a welcoming, friendly, and heartwarming spot to get work done.

I would most definitely recommend coming here as early as possible, as locals know that Pave is a laptop friendly place, and it would be a shame if you couldn’t get a comfortable seat there.

Plus, Pave opens from around 7 in the morning, so you do have plenty of time to study – it closes quite early, at 1 pm some days, at 3.30 pm on some other days – so really, come at the earliest!

Best Cafes to Work in Milan: Open More Than Books

best cafes to work in milan italy - best cafes to study in milan - best cafe for studying near me in milan - best places to study in milan - where to work in milan with laptop - good cafes to work in milano - best laptop friendly cafes in milan for digital nomads - best study cafe in milan - best coffee shops to work in milan - open more than books

Open – Open More Than Books of its full name, is yet another one of the best cafes to work in Milan when you’re planning to stay for a while.

Not only do you have a large cafe space where you can spread a few books and your laptop, but you also have amazing food, drinks and nice ambient music.

Open More Than Books is more of a coworking space, like Coffice, than an actual free-to-enter laptop friendly cafe, though.

There is a fee to enter, but if you’re plannign to stay all day, then you’ll find that you’ll actually save money coming to work there.

Choose a spot on the large communal tables, spend some time on the terrace, or rent one of the meeting rooms Open More Than Books offers – it’s really up to you, to choose what sort of space will help you be more motivated to study and work.

Best Cafes in Milan to Work: Starbucks Reserve

Of course, of course I was going to include a Starbucks coffee shop in this guide!

One of the only cities I wouldn’t recommend Starbucks to work is NYC, as the chain’s cafes are not the cleanest there.

Yet, when you’re in Italy, there are so few Starbucks coffee shops that when you see one and want to work, get in there and grab a seat ASAP!

Starbucks Reserve, in particular, is one of the best places to study in Milan when all you want is a huge coffee shop and seats where no one will come to disturb you.

It’s open from 7.30 am to 10 pm, and you could literally stay there all day, chugging coffee after coffee, and writing line after line.

Plus, Starbucks Reserve is not even far from the center – it’s right in the heart of the historic city center, in Piazza Cordusio, so if you’re after the best cafes to work in Milan, that’s one of my top picks.

Several levels, lots of seating space with power outlets, and even a terrace to read or journal: what more could we really want?

Best Cafes to Work in Milan: RED Cafe

I remember the first time I moved to Rome, and found about RED Cafe – after the pandemic, though, it shut down, and I was the saddest person ever.

Now, for those looking for the best cafes to work in Milan, RED Cafe is a place I cannot recommend enough.

It’s basically a bookshop cafe, filled with books from top to bottom and many tables on which you can sit with your laptop and your notebooks – and stay for as long as you want.

There are not many power outlets around the cafe, though, so make sure you come with your devices charged. However, there is pretty good WiFi to do basic tasks.

You may have to keep ordering, as RED Cafe is not the biggest place to study in Milan, but honestly, I’ve always found the prices to be really honest – and the atmosphere clearly is perfect for students and digital nomads.

Best Cafes to Study in Milan: Tenoha Milano

Tenoha Milano is probably the only place I’ll mention in here that is not a coffee shop per se; actually, Tenoha is a Japanese restaurant slash cafe adorned with a beautiful garden at the back.

However, even if it might feel weird working there, Tenoha actually offers a coworking space and even allow you to work in the back of the cafe/restaurant, where you’ll not only have free WiFi but power outlets too.

If you’re looking to be really focused with work, I’d recommend coming as early as possible, as Tenoha Milano is quite popular among locals – especially around lunchtime.

Just a really great spot when you’re not sure where to find good cafes to work in Milan, and would like to find yourself in a spacious, comfortable study space!

Best Cafes to Work in Milan: Ca’Puccino

If you know you have lots of work to do, and will need to stay for a while, another one of the best cafes to work in Milan is Ca’Puccino.

It’s open from 7.30 am to 9 pm every day of the week, and if you’re a digital nomad, you know how tricky it can be to find cafes open late to study.

Ca’Puccino has two branches in Milan, but the one on Piazza Armando Diaz is really spacious and just clean-looking.

If you’re one to like minimalist decor in coffee shops, you’ll love working there – it’s really neat, and perfect for students looking for quiet study cafes in Milan.

There is free WiFi, power outlets scattered around the cafe, and if you come with your laptop charged fully, you can sit near the window and just lose yourself in the sights of the world passing by.

Best Cafes to Study in Milan: Milano Roastery

You might mistake Milano Roastery with the Starbucks Reserve when you check out the best cafes to work in Milan on Google Maps, but rest assured – these are two very different cafes.

Milano Roastery features the same kind of rustic vibe as Starbucks Reserve, but you’ve also got amazingly fast, free WiFi and a few power outlets here and there.

Not a lot, though, so make sure you come with your laptop and phone charged.

The other cool thing about Milano Roastery, and what makes it one of the best places to study in Milan, is the opening hours.

It’s another one of the study cafes that opens from 7.30 am to 9 pm almost every day of the week, so if you’re planning to do lots and lots of work, that’s the spot for you.

Best Cafes to Work in Milan: Starbucks Garibaldi

The second Starbucks in this guide is located on Corso Garibaldi, and it’s another really huge coffee shop perfect for digital nomads and students to settle at for a while.

What do you feel like? Free WiFi? Power outlets? A lot of seating space? Great opening times from the morning to dinnertime?

Starbucks Garibaldi has it all, so if you’re looking for good cafes to work in Milan and study your midterms, or write a paper, it’s another really cool spot.

Best Coffee Shops to Work in Milan: California Bakery

Photo: Cool Cities

California Bakery is different from some of the really laptop friendly cafes in Milan I’ve mentioned above like Milano Roastery and Starbucks Reserve, in that it’s a bakery.

It’s not advertised as a study cafe, but within its few branches around town, California Bakery has a rustic type of vibe, really friendly staff and plenty of seating space in most of its bakeries.

In most of them, you’ll also find plenty of power outlets, but I’d recommend coming early, as California Bakery is known for its delicious American treats, from pancakes to pastries.

That means that it fills up fast, especially at weekends. Come early, and you’ll get a spot at one of the best cafes to work in Milan!

Best Cafes to Work in Milan: Colibri

What you see on the picture above is Colibri’s garden, an adorable place to study in Milan when the weather gets warm.

However, what you don’t see is that Colibri on Via Laghetto is another bookshop cafe perfect to work for a while, since it has free WiFi and very comfortable armchairs, in that type of rustic decor I love.

It opens from 9 am to 12 am almost every day of the week, and that means you could come from the opening, work for a few hours, and then walk your way around the historical center of Milan.

Just a really snug place, really, and the fact that Colibri also has an inspiring garden terrace at hand makes it another one of the best laptop friendly cafes in Milan.

Best Cafes to Study in Milan: Santeria

Santeria Paladini is one of the two branches of Santeria in Milan, a perfect spot that acts as a coffee shop, a bar, a concept store and a party place at night.

Of course, for this one, you’re going to want to come as early as possible – and certainly not at the end of the afternoon, when Santeria fills up with people looking to unwind.

Just the contrary of what you’re looking for!

At Santeria, you’ll have free WiFi and power outlets to charge your phone and your laptop, and the coffee shop is used to having people coming to work there all day long.

Also, when the weather gets happy and dandy, Santeria’s garden has a spacious terrace on which you can sit to work some more, read a book, or really just enjoy a cool drink while making plans for the future.
