Chelsea offers plenty of amazing things to do from walking the High Line, one of the most interesting and beautiful parks in New York City, to its beautiful market and the Whitney Museum.

But we are not here to learn about the best things to do in New York City today, are we?

So here, here are, without further ado, the best cafes to work in Chelsea NYC.

And if you were wondering how I chose these specific laptop friendly cafes, I make it a point to select places in which you will find free Wi-Fi and power outlets as often as possible.

But as always, I would recommend you come early in the morning, as New York City is one of the most bustling cities in the world, and you might have to fight to snatch the best seats.

Best Cafes to Work in Chelsea NYC: Bean & Bean

I have talked about Bean & Bean in the past, since it is indeed one of the best cafes to work in Manhattan.

This beautiful rustic-feeling place is open from 7 am to 7 pm almost every day, and only closes an hour earlier on Saturdays and Sundays.

Located on 8th Avenue, Bean & Bean offers plenty of seating space, and you also have a lot of power outlets available to charge your devices.

Just a really rustic/industrial laptop friendly cafe, and one of the top spots in Chelsea if you’re looking for some inspiration and/or the best places to write in New York City.

One of the best cafes to work on the Upper East side is Variety Coffee Roasters, which also has locations in other places in New York City – including one in Chelsea.

Telegraphe Cafe is probably one of the smallest working coffee shops in Chelsea NYC, but oh boy. The quality of the French fare served at Telegraphe is reason enough to wake up early in the morn and get on to work.

During the week, Telegraphe opens from 7.30 am to 6.30 pm, which gives you plenty of times to get in the zone and be productive.

Kona Coffee Roasters on 7th Ave has a few branches which are some of the best cafes to work in NYC, but the one in Chelsea is probably one of my favorite study cafes in this whole guide.

Why?

Because Kona Coffee is known for their excellent coffee, along with simple breakfast and brunch bites made to perfection.

It’s open from 7 am to 7 pm most days of the week, and you’ll find a couple of power plugs here and there.

Needless to say, come as early as you can to get a seat near the power outlets – and be prepared to work in solidarity with other freelancers and students already grinding on their laptops!

Now this one could definitely have been included in my guide to the most instagrammable cafes in NYC, couldn’t it? Cafe Flor is that quirky, green and floral little coffee shop perfect for studying as the seats are utterly comfortable.

The 8th Ave Cafe Flor offers free WiFi along with plenty of Parisian cafe styled chairs and tables, which would almost make you think that you’re in Paris working on those pages.

Not many power outlets, so come with your devices charged, but honestly, when you see the beauty of this laptop friendly cafe, you won’t even mind.

Plus, Cafe Flor open from 8 am to 9 pm almost every day of the week – for those who work without looking at the clock, those opening times are a blast!

Best Study Coffee Shops in Chelsea NYC: Bluestone Lane

Bluestone Lane on Manhattan West is one of the cutest laptop friendly cafes in Chelsea, and probably one of the lesser-known.

That’s definitely a perfect cafe to read, but if you want to settle at Bluestone Lane with your laptop too, that’s definitely possible.

Beware, it closes pretty early – opening times: 7 am to 4 pm most days.

A huge cafe, not many power outlets but free WiFi, and amazing atmosphere – plus, the huge windows allow you to look out on life passing by outside.

Personally, I love coffee shops of any kind when I’m writing on The Working Line; it doesn’t really matter whether the light is dim or the windows are bright.

But somehow, when the space is airy, I always seem to lose myself in observing life outside – which can be really good for inspiration!

In any case, Bluestone Lane is indeed one of the best cafes to work in Chelsea, but if you’re also looking for some of the best breakfast in NYC, that’s probably a spot you’re going to want to have on your list.

787 Coffee on 15th St is one of the smallest working coffee shops in the city, but boy, isn’t that the cutest!

All you need to know about 787 Coffee is that power outlets and WiFi are available, but beyond that, the decor makes for a big part of its personality.

Neons, wood and painted bricks – the study cafe has everything I like, all in one place.

787 Coffee is open from 7 am to 6 pm, so you’ve got plenty of time to come in and order amazing coffee before sitting down and starting to type away furiously on your keyboard.

Probably one of the smallest, but one of the best places to work in Chelsea if you like trendy vibes.

I chose to include Seven Grams Caffe in case you never find any free space in the other working coffee shops in Chelsea, just because it offers a really nice atmosphere.

Seven Grams Caffe is pretty small, actually, but the quality of the coffee and their delicious pastries and cakes will make you come back.

And while you don’t have many power plugs in this Chelsea coffee shop at all, you do have free WiFi perfect to stay and work for a couple of hours.

I’d actually recommend visiting Seven Grams Caffe for those looking for the best cafes to read in NYC, as the atmosphere clearly is that inviting for readers and old school writers – pen and paper.

Good opening hours too, since Seven Grams Caffe welcomes us from 7 am to 6 pm almost every day of the week!

King’s Street Coffee not only offers really good seating space, but also a view on the bright outside – which, I said it before, is always very inspiring for me when I’m writing.

At King’s Street Coffee, you’ll find one of the best cafes to study in Chelsea, since the number of seats is incredible for NYC, and you’ve also got amazingly fast WiFi.

On top of that, snacks and coffee will help you replenish that stomach of yours during the day – although I don’t know about you, but my only filling during the day is coffee after coffee when I’m writing.

King’s Street Coffee is open from 7 am to 5 pm on weekdays, with shorter opening times at weekends, and is closed on Sundays.

Come during the week, as early as you can, and you’ll have a chance of working in one of the best laptop friendly cafes in Chelsea!

Best Cafes in Chelsea NYC to Study: Citizens of Chelsea

If you want to come work at Citizens of Chelsea, come after the rush of breakfast – you’ll thank me later.

This Aussie-style coffee shop is perfect to study, and it’s not missing a single thing from WiFi to power outlets.

The single tables are perfect for those who just want to work away on their laptops without being disturbed.

If you get a breakfast sandwich or a pastry during your productive time, best believe you’ll understand why Citizens of Chelsea is such a famous study coffee shop in Chelsea.

And in addition to that perfect indoor space, Citizens of Chelsea also has an outdoor space in which you can either relax or keep working while using the free WiFi.

Careful though, the coffee shop is open from 8 am to 4 pm during weekdays – come early to get a guaranteed seat!

Very close to the refreshing Madison Square Garden, Gregory’s Cafe is the last one in this guide that makes for a perfect laptop friendly study space in Chelsea.

Gregory’s Coffee actually has a few branches around town, and I’ve already mentioned it several times on The Working Line because it’s just that good.

This one opens at 7 am and closes at 5 pm – you’re going to want to come early if you want to get those work hours in!

Is it the rustic background mixed with a modern feel?

Is it the free WiFi?

Is it the great atmosphere, so digital nomad-friendly you can virtually touch it? (pun intended)

In addition to free WiFi, Gregory’s Coffee also has a few power outlets scattered around the space – which finishes to make it one of the best cafes to work in Chelsea NYC pretty much at any time of the day.
