But if you’re looking for the best pasta in Trastevere, then you need to pay Tonnarello a visit. So you’re wondering what are the best places to eat in Trastevere – but there are lots of tourists and locals wondering the same thing. And often, me included, we end up at Tonnarello.

There’s usually a long queue in front of Tonnarello on Via della Paglia, close to the Basilica di Santa Maria in Trastevere, and it’s a great indicator of how delicious their classic Roman tonnarelli cacio e pepe are. The last time I visited was just a few weeks ago, and I’m working on the full review of this institution of Trastevere.

Amazing pasta, delicious mussels as well, and overall just a bit pricier than other restaurants in Trastevere I’ll mention below, but totally worth it for Roman dishes.

Otello is one of the pasta restaurants in Trastevere you’re going to need to visit ASAP. Not only for their delicious pasta but for the fact that the pizza at Otello is also otherworldly. Located right in the heart of Trastevere, just a few minutes walk from the Basilica di Santa Maria in Trastevere, Otello has all kinds of classic Roman dishes on the menu.

Now we’re straying a bit off the subject of hidden gems in Rome, with Enoteca Trastevere being one of the most famous restaurants in Trastevere. You’ll always see plenty of people eating on the outdoor terrace, or just having drinks at the end of a workday, and there’s no wonder why: the atmosphere at Enoteca Trastevere is relaxed, chill, and will trigger the impulse of relaxing for you too.

Despite being located right in the center of Trastevere, Enoteca Trastevere has kept its prices very reasonable. Between cheese boards, cacio e pepe and octopus, you’ll find lots of classic Roman dishes and innovative plates to fill in that belly of yours.

It’s actually more of a drinks place than a restaurant, but since I don’t really drink alcohol, I felt like highlighting their huge, fresh and delicious menu would be nice for you who are looking for the best restaurants in Trastevere.

Best Pasta in Rome: La Casetta di Trastevere

I’ve eaten at La Casetta di Trastevere more times than I can count, and if you’re wondering where to eat in Trastevere on a budget, that’s one of the best pasta restaurants I can recommend. One of the true hidden gems in Rome, it does take some walking to get to La Casetta di Trastevere, just because it’s off the main squares and streets of Trastevere.

I remember the first time I had lunch at this Trastevere restaurant; there was a queue but I decided to wait, and I then proceeded to order as many dishes as I could handle from the menu. I had some of the best lasagna in Rome at La Casetta di Trastevere, and their pizza, cacio e Pepe, and drinks are all absolutely stunning.

One word: if you’re after the best restaurants in Trastevere for pasta, it’s a spot you really cannot miss. Plus, not too far, you’ve got the Botanical Garden of Rome, one of my favorite things to do alone in Rome, since it’s one of the most perfect spots to relax and spot a secret view of Rome.

Best Restaurants in Trastevere: Pasta e Vino Osteria

Want to know the best places to eat in Trastevere? Pasta e Vino Osteria. One of the oldest restaurants in Trastevere, Pasta e Vino Osteria makes everything ‘come ‘na vorta’ (as it used to be; approximate translation), from handmade pasta to delicious, creamy sauces. Located on Via della Pelliccia, Pasta e Vino Osteria promises lunch and dinner with the most classic Roman dishes.

So of course, I couldn’t write a guide to the best pasta in Trastevere without mentioning this restaurant. From time to time, you’ll see a member of the team making fresh pasta from the window, and I can’t stress enough how important it is for me to eat fresh food. Then again, it’s not hard to understand what pasta is fresh in Rome; all the restaurants in Trastevere I’m mentioning here today have some of the freshest pasta in Rome.

Best Pasta in Rome: Vecchia Trastevere

Vecchia Trastevere is that kind of Roman osteria that offers all kinds of delicious pasta dishes. There, you’ll taste only fresh pasta and in addition, the starters are really stunning. I’m talking about their incredible burratina; and it’s true I’ve never talked about this before, but I’m crazy about all sorts of mozzarella, from burrata to buffala. Vecchia Trastevere is one of the best kept secrets when it comes to finding the best restaurants in Trastevere for pasta.

The pasta cacio e pepe, of course, is my first choice there, but if you’d like to try something a tad different, the eggplant pasta, gnocchi e saltimbocca are other classics of Italian cuisine that this restaurant in Trastevere has nailed down to a T. It’s super central too, so if you want to dine at one of the best pasta restaurants in Trastevere, that’s the spot.

Best Pasta in Trastevere: Trattoria Da Teo

Trattoria da Teo is located close to the Piazza dei Ponziani, and although it might be on the pricier side, if you’re looking for the best pasta in Trastevere, that’s a restaurant you should have on your bucket list. The most classic Roman dishes sit proudly on the menu at Trattoria da Teo, and you’ll find stunning carbonara and amatriciana along with ossobuco and Jewish-style artichokes there.

Whether you dine on the outdoor terrace or inside, you’ll experience one of the most real Roman experiences. At Trattoria da Teo, one of the best hidden gems in Rome, there are almost no tourists, and the information is passed by word of mouth. Delicious is the word, and if you still have room for dessert, it doesn’t matter that this is one of the best pasta restaurants in Trastevere: you have to have their incredible tiramisu.

Just two steps away from the Church of San Francesco a Ripa, you’ll find Peppo al Cosimato. Despite being so crucial to the religious, historical and cultural environment of Rome, Trastevere is actually not that big and in a day or two, I am of the opinion you can be done with walking around the area. I’ll be straightforward: you might be looking for the best pasta restaurants in Trastevere, but sitting at Peppo al Cosimato, you might change your mind and order a pizza. Indeed, they do serve some of the best pizza in Rome, with melty cheese and deliciously chewy dough. However, after a fried suppli or two (some of the best street food in Rome!), I’d definitely recommend getting a nice, filling plate of the best pasta in Rome at Peppo al Cosimato.

Best Restaurants in Trastevere: Checco er Carettiere

If you want to avoid the tourist traps and really find the best pasta restaurants in Trastevere, Checco er Carettiere probably is one of the most local restaurants in Rome. Located on Via Benedetta, Checco er Carettiere welcomes both locals and tourists at its cozy tables, and you’ll be able to eat all the delicious Roman dishes you might wish for there.

Tiramisu, pasta cacio e Pepe, classic antipasti like the Jewish-style artichokes, and all kinds of stunning plates will be served at your table. BONUS: Best Restaurants in Trastevere: L’Insalata Ricca

L’Insalata Ricca is, in my opinion, one of the best pasta restaurants in Trastevere. It is one of the only restaurants in Rome that I’ve visited over and over again, especially at the branch near Piramide, since I used to live at Garbatella.

L’Insalata Ricca offers some of the best lunch in Rome, at prices that beat all kinds of competition. There, you’ll have a full lunch with a starter, a pasta plate, a super cheap pizza or a salad, and a coffee for just over 10€ – one of those little hidden gems in Rome that no one really talks about because it’s not a tourist trap, basically.

And the quality, folks, is beyond stunning. If you’re looking for the best restaurants in Trastevere for pasta, L’Insalata Ricca has been one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Rome for over a year. The fact that they have quite a few restaurants around Trastevere and Rome means a lot, and their cacio e pepe pasta is fantastic.
