10 Best MAC Maroon Lipstick & Burgundy Shades Red to Dark

At the time I’m writing this guide, we’re right in the middle of winter, and since I wrote about some of the best MAC mauve lipsticks some time ago, along with some of my favorite MAC berry lipstick shades, why not keep going with some all-time favorites?

That’s how we’re going to see together all the best MAC maroon lipstick colors and burgundy lipsticks today – but not only some of the most famous, like Diva and Sin.

There are oh-so-many MAC matte lipsticks, Satin, and Amplified lipsticks you can wear during the fall and winter time, but I personally think that wearing a beautiful MAC dark burgundy lipstick echoes the cold weather to perfection.

As per usual, we’ll talk here about some of the best MAC Satin lipsticks, matte lipsticks, and other finishes for all skin tones.

I’m a makeup artist, aren’t I, it’s important for me to share the best MAC maroon lipstick shades for everyone. I mean, after all, during the fall and wintertime, who doesn’t wear beautiful burgundy red lipstick at least once?

As I said at the beginning, I’ll share here some of the most famous MAC burgundy lipstick colors, names that everyone at least a little bit attracted to the MAC Cosmetics brand knows; Diva, Sin, or Dubonnet. But we’ll see many more, and I am excited for you to try your new favorite MAC maroon lipstick!

Best MAC Maroon Lipstick Shades: Sin

Deep dark blue red

Sin is one of the most famous MAC maroon lipstick shades, with a very deep, almost purple color. It’s one of my favorite colors to apply on someone with fair skin tone and warm undertones, and it also looks stunning on medium skin tones, Asian skin, olive skin, and dark skin.

The Sin lipstick is one of the best MAC burgundy lipstick colors in my opinion, perfect for winter and fall. However, since it’s matte and so dark, I can only very warmly recommend wearing it with the Prep + Prime for lips underneath.

That way, you won’t see any bits of dry skin as the day passes, and you won’t see the Sin lipstick feather or bleed in any way.

Wear it with some of the best MAC burgundy lip liners like Burgundy, Nightmoth, or even the brown Chestnut lip liner if you want to create a bit of contrast between both shades.

Best MAC Burgundy Lipstick Colors: Media

Intense purplish red

I like the Sin lipstick, but if there’s one shade that screams ‘I’m a fall MAC lipstick color!’, it’s in my opinion the Media lipstick from the Satin range.

Anyone who’s been here before knows how crazy I am about the MAC Satin lipsticks; they’re stunning, with an almost matte finish, great pigmentation, and color payoff, and last really well during the day.

If you’re looking for beautiful MAC maroon lipstick but don’t want to go for a matte color, you’re going to love Media.

It’s in my opinion one of the most underrated MAC burgundy lipsticks, but if you tend to have dry lips and are looking for some kind of burgundy in a hydrating MAC lipstick, you’re going to love the Media shade.

Best MAC Maroon Lipstick Shades: Diva

Intense reddish-burgundy

The Diva lipstick is probably one of the overall most famous MAC maroon lipstick shades, and it’s really easy to understand why.

The color is full, a tad lighter than the Sin lipstick, which means that it will look stunning whether you have fair Indian skin, Asian skin, olive skin, or fair Caucasian skin.

It’s really hard to do any better if you’re looking for a winter MAC lipstick because Diva is also easy to wear throughout the year. See it as a slightly dark MAC red lipstick, just a bit darker than one of my all-time favorites, the Viva Glam 1 lipstick.

Wear it during date night, or when you want to make a statement, with some of the most beautiful MAC lip liners for medium skin and dark skin, like Plum, Burgundy, or Nightmoth.

Best MAC Burgundy Lipsticks: Dare You

Deep brown red

I like the Cremesheen lipsticks as they provide a lot of hydration and a really buildable color. That’s the best MAC lipstick finish if you tend to have dry lips, something we all go through as fall and winter get colder.

If you’re looking for a beautiful burgundy red lipstick from MAC, the Dare You lipstick is one of the most underrated when it comes to fair skin tones. It’s got this slightly brown undertone, which means that if you’ve got warm undertones, it’s going to look stunning on you.

What I’d do with this one is wear some champagne or gold eyeshadow and some black eyeliner, and you’re good to go.

If you’re after a dark MAC maroon lipstick shade, I probably wouldn’t go for the Dare You lipstick. However, it’s really easy to wear if you want to go for an everyday kind of red burgundy lipstick.

Best MAC Maroon Lipstick Shades: Dubonnet

Mid-tone wine

Then you’ve got Dubonnet, one of the most beautiful MAC Amplified lipsticks, which offers a really strong color payoff and a really moisturizing formula.

You’ve got something a tad brighter and lighter than the Dare You lipstick, and it’s safe to say that this is one of the best MAC maroon lipstick colors.

The number of Asian women I sold the Dubonnet lipstick to as I was working for MAC Cosmetics is incredible; on fair and tan skin tones with warm undertones, this is one of the most beautiful burgundy MAC lipsticks.

Not too dark, not too light, it embodies the spirit of winter lipstick colors to perfection.

Wear it with lip liners such as Cherry, Half Red, or Plum underneath according to what result you want to get – brighter with the Cherry lip liner, more muted with the other two lip pencils.

Best MAC Maroon Lipstick Shades: Spice it Up!

If you’re a fan of the Cremesheen finish at MAC Cosmetics, chances are you’ll love the Lustreglass lipsticks as well.

They offer a sheerer finish, and they’re some of my favorites for summer, like the See Sheer lipstick, one of the most beautiful MAC coral lipsticks.

However, during the fall and wintertime, the Lustreglass finish on top of a matching lip liner is one of the most incredible things ever. You’ve got the full color provided by the lip liner underneath, and the ultra-shiny finish of the lipstick.

One of the best MAC maroon lipstick colors to choose if you want a shiny finish is the Spice it Up! lipstick.

Rather than a dark burgundy lipstick, you’ve got in the Spice It Up! lipstick something much more berry, more pink, with a tinge of brown. Super underrated, especially if you’re looking for beautiful nude MAC lipsticks for dark skin.

Best MAC Maroon Lipstick Shades: La Femme

I haven’t talked about the MAC Love Me Lipsticks that much on The Working Line, but a full guide to these gems is coming soon. They were released when I was still working at MAC Cosmetics in Paris, and offer a really full color payoff, as well as lots of hydrating.

Some of the best mauve MAC lipsticks are part of the Love Me Lipsticks, and one of the best maroon slash burgundy colors is the La Femme lipstick.

Although it will look stunning on fair skin, this is one of the colors that I would recommend even more if you’ve got Indian skin, medium skin, or dark skin.

I know that with my NW15 skin tone, I can pull off the La Femme lipstick without any problem. Beyond a simple MAC maroon lipstick color, you’ve got here something a tad more purple, ‘eggplant’, as MAC Cosmetics says.

It’s absolutely stunning with lip liners like Vino, to make it a tad brighter, or Nightmoth to dive deep into its depth.

Best MAC Maroon Lipstick Shades: Burning Love

Deep intense berry

The MAC Burning Love lipstick is part of the beautiful Powder Kiss lipstick range, and this one is special because the formula allows us to use it as a perfect matching blush as well.

I’ve always loved the Powder Kiss lipsticks for this reason; I prefer heavy, drying matte MAC lipsticks rather than something really comfortable, but as a blush, they’re perfect.

This one, more than just a red MAC maroon lipstick, is more on the berry side – I could definitely have included it with the other dark berry and raspberry lipsticks I told you about a few days ago.

Quite a few different MAC lip liners for medium skin, fair skin, and Indian skin go with the MAC Burning Love lipstick, including Vino, Plum, Nightmoth, or even Chestnut to create a bit more contrast, and it really looks stunning whether you have Asian skin or very dark skin.

Best MAC Maroon Lipstick Shades: Viva Glam 3

Muted brownish-plum

Now for one of my absolute favorite MAC maroon lipstick shades, a beautiful muted color; Viva Glam 3! There’s not one Viva Glam lipstick I don’t like, they always hit the spot for most skin tones, whether we’re talking about the incredible nude lipstick Viva Glam 2, or the perfect red shade Viva Glam 1.

And if you’re looking for the best MAC lipstick with a maroon color, something a bit different than a pure burgundy red, you’ll love Viva Glam 3. On fair skin, it looks beautiful, whether you are a brunette or have blonde hair.

On medium and dark skin, it looks statement and stunning, and if you’re looking for something longlasting during the day, something that won’t budge and provides a different color than what you could have in any other brand, no one does Viva Glam colors like MAC Cosmetics.

Best MAC Burgundy Lipstick Shades: Dubonnet Buzz

In the new releases of Powder Kiss lipstick colors, MAC Cosmetics took some of their most famous shades, like Dubonnet, Soar, or Marrakesh, and turned them into a Powder Kiss formula.

From my time working retail at MAC, I know that lots of people loved the colors of the matte lipsticks, but thought the formula was way too drying.

Enter the Powder Kiss, which revolutionized the way people were using and wearing matte lipsticks. And for one of the best MAC maroon lipstick colors, you’ve got the Dubonnet Buzz lipstick.

I’m not a fan of the name, but I’m definitely a fan of the burgundy red color, which makes Dubonnet Buzz one of the best fall MAC lipstick shades.

After all, its mid-tone color means it’s perfect whether you’re looking for lipstick for fair skin, Indian skin, medium, or Asian skin, and it just goes perfectly as a matching blush too.
