A collection of cute cafes in Barcelona for coffee, breakfast, brunch or a snack – these are some of the best places to eat in Barcelona, Spain!

Last year, I settled in Barcelona for a few months – I wanted to try out a new European digital nomad city, and that one had been on my list for years.

Needless to say, I had the time to try out plenty of cool coffee shops as I was living there, and it’s high time I shared with you those that kept me coming back, again and again!

Now, let me just put this out there: there are a lot of instagrammable cafes in Barcelona, but these are not necessarily in this guide today.

I wanted to focus on coffee shops, some of which also double as bakeries, where breakfast, brunch, and snacks are incredible.

Some are really unique, while some are chain cafes with very, very cheap breakfast menus.

That’s actually something that surprised me while I was living in Barcelona: just how cheap breakfast is there, barely exceeding 2 or 3 euros for a whole meal most of the time.

And well, these are the spots you’ll have to pop by in between your visits to Barcelona’s hidden gems!

Best Cafes in Barcelona: El Desvan, Eixample

In Eixample, one of the liveliest neighborhoods of Barcelona, I found El Desvan Bakery and instantly fell in love.

Not only do we have here one of the most instagrammable cafes in town, but El Desvan bakes up the most decadent cookies you’ll ever try in your life.

The matcha cookies and red velvet cookies, with huge chunks of cream and fruit inside, are some of my favorites, and if you have a really, really sweet tooth, try their cheesecakes as well.

Everything at El Desvan is homemade, and I guarantee you have here one of the best places to eat in Barcelona!

Best Breakfast and Cafes in Barcelona: Manolo Bakes, Various Locations

Manolo Bakes is another one of the bakeries slash coffee shops I can’t recommend enough when visiting Barcelona.

My favorite location in Diagonal is a perfect spot to pop by to start the day, and I have to admit to having eaten a lot of their mini-croissant boxes when I was living in Spain; topped with Lotus cookies, white chocolate, pistachio cream or plain sugar, these are, in a word, perfect.

As a French person, I will always be looking for spots to eat croissants in London, Rome, or, well, Barcelona as well – and Manolo Bakes never misses.

The coffee there is also really good, and I’ve also drunk my fair share of thick, tasty smoothies there: really a place you can’t miss for an amazing breakfast in Barcelona!

Best Cafes in Barcelona: Moka, La Rambla

I avoided La Rambla during my time in Barcelona; pickpocketing and touristy shops are not usually my jam.

However, I discovered the Moka coffee shop/restaurant established right onto La Rambla, and since I did a lot of shopping in Barcelona, and a lot of stores are located around Plaça de Catalunya, I stopped by a couple of times.

For a quick and easy breakfast and an instagrammable decor, that was a place I really enjoyed spending time at – from the terrace, of course, to be able to enjoy observing life passing by.

Best Breakfast and Cafes in Barcelona: Bakers, Eixample

Since I used to live in Sant Antoni, places like El Raval and Eixample were neighborhoods I spent a lot of time in, and, located in Eixample like El Desvan, you will find another really cool cafe: Bakers Panaderia.

This is actually not a Spanish cafe, but a Russian one – the husband is Russian, while the wife is Ukrainian, and the pastries at Bakers Panaderia are unlike any others you’ll find in Barcelona.

A really affordable cafe to have breakfast in, with many seats on the terrace to enjoy the view on the neighboring buildings and people walking about their day.

Best Cafes in Barcelona: Panshouse, Sant Antoni

On Ronda de Sant Antoni, about two minutes from where I used to live, Panshouse is another one of the cheapest cafes I’ve had breakfast in while in Barcelona – I’ve actually eaten there more times than reasonable!

If you’re looking for places to have typical sandwiches while in town, that’s the place, but my main reason for eating at Panshouse was for the affordable pastries, especially the Danish, which is a favorite of mine.

The coffee is pretty good, nothing exceptional, especially for whoever would have visited cafes in Rome or Istanbul – but there are a few seats on the terrace, and Ronda de Sant Antoni is so lively there’s always something happening there.

Best Breakfast and Cafes in Barcelona: Sandwichez, Various Locations

While Sandwichez has a lot of branches, the one I spent most time at is actually also located on Ronda de Sant Antoni, and is one of the best cafes to work in Barcelona as well.

It is pricier than places like Panshouse or Granier, but you will find more Sandwichez around town, and when you’re looking for study cafes that also sell amazing croissants, wraps and fresh juices, that’s a place you can always count on.

Best Cafes in Barcelona: Panaderia Granier, Various Locations

On Carrer del Comte d’Urgell, close to the metro station, you will find Panaderia Granier – the prices there are similar to Panshouse, even if Granier is a chain of coffee shops/bakeries.

You will find very good breakfast deals there; three croissants for just two euros is something I have only ever seen in Spain, to be fair.

My favorite Granier branch is the Urgell one; a few seats in a lively neighborhood, with endless options for food and really delicious croissants, Danish and churros – what more could you wish for, really?

Best Breakfast and Cafes in Barcelona: 365, Various Locations

365 is another chain of coffee shops I’ve spent a lot of time in, writing and daydreaming – it’s a bit pricier, especially when it comes to the sandwiches and breakfast deals, but still very affordable.

From Gracia to Diagonal, it sometimes felt like there was a 365 cafe everywhere I walked, and we’re actually not too far from the truth.

In addition, if you’ve given Manolo Bakes a try and loved the place, 365 sells the same kind of delicious mini croissants – not quite the same, but still very tasty!

Best Cafes in Barcelona: Vivari, Various Locations

Lastly, another chain of cafes in Barcelona I loved to pop by every now and then is Vivari, which doubles as bakeries – there are over 120 Vivari branches all around Catalonia, and they’re amazing for a quick breakfast.

Initially a family-run company, Vivari is located in some of the hottest spots in Barcelona, and my favorite branch is located only a couple of minutes away from La Rambla.

That’s where you will find strong coffee, affordable prices, and anything from croissants to croque-monsieurs, donuts and more!
