We’re back today with a complete MAC Velvet Teddy lipstick review, with swatches!

One of the best nude MAC lipstick shades ever created, Velvet Teddy will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year, and has proven to be a trustworthy color for many skin tones ever since its launch.

I’ve told you about the Velvet Teddy lipstick in the review that compared it with Sweet Deal and Yash a few months ago, and thought I’d give it its rightful spot in a dedicated review.

MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick Swatch + Review

While there are many possible dupes for the Velvet Teddy lipstick around, this universal, deep-toned beige pink lipstick is so perfectly-designed that splurging is definitely worth it.

Part of the matte MAC lipstick range, Velvet Teddy is so popular that MAC Cosmetics has even released another similar, yet different nude shade with Velvet Teddy 2.0, a beautiful Powder Kiss lipstick.

As an ex-MAC makeup artist, I cannot remember how many tubes of the Velvet Teddy lipstick I’ve sold when I was working at MAC in London and Paris.

While I have always been known to wear quite strange colors, from blue to gold lipsticks, I have been wearing ever more nude and brown lipsticks lately.

And Velvet Teddy, guys… is an amazing everyday lipstick.

Here’s what MAC Cosmetics says about the Velvet Teddy lipstick:

There is a reason Velvet Teddy is a classic. It balances pink, peach, brown and nude tones together to create a universally flattering lip colour that’s perfect for all occasions.

Each MAC lipstick weighs 3g, and while we’ve seen the MAC products rise in price over the years, they’re still worth every penny.

MAC Cosmetics formulates their matte lipsticks with ‘several emollients plus a matting agent called Silica and Vitamin E and C derivatives as antioxidants’.

I have noticed lately, after purchasing a fair few MAC lipsticks again, that the brand now has numbers as well as names on the tubes and boxes, making it easier for customers to come back and repurchase their favorites.

MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick Review: Swatches

Clearly, the Velvet Teddy lipstick is a great shade to have whether you’re a makeup artist or a makeup enthusiast.

The balance between beige, brown and pink makes it one of the best MAC lipsticks for fair skin up to medium skin.

It’s also a nude shade I mentioned in my guide to the best nude MAC lipsticks for NW15 skin, which is fair olive skin and happens to be my foundation shade in MAC.

Velvet Teddy is very opaque and glides well, both on the lips and when swatched on the hand. It’s very popular simply because it is comfortable to wear as well as universally-flattering indeed.

That may be reason enough for it to be one of the most popular bridal lipsticks from MAC ever brought to us, too.

The slight shine you might see when applying the Velvet Teddy lipstick on your lips for the first time disappears in a couple of minutes, making it truly matte.

If you’re wondering whether Velvet Teddy is drying, it is not during the first hours of wear time.

Make sure to wear the Prep + Prime for lips, though, simply a perfect lip primer to make any lipstick look smoother on the lips.

Many customers used to think that a lip primer was absolutely not worth it, but it is – and no, it’s nothing like a lip balm, but rather acts like tape on your lips and blurs out the fine lines.

If you don’t want to get the Prep + Prime for lips, although it’s very much worth it, you can go for something a bit cheaper, like another favorite of mine, the 3ina Lip Primer.

Possible Lip Liners for Velvet Teddy

If you’re looking for lip liners to wear with the Velvet Teddy lipstick, the easiest pick would be the Spice lip liner.

I do however love to wear Velvet Teddy with Soar, Whirl, Half Red or Plum, and for darker skin tones, you can match it with other shades such as Nightmoth and Chestnut.

The Stone lip liner with Velvet Teddy also looks gorgeous – really, you have plenty of options, all you have to do is trust yourself and try new combos!

MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick Review: Final Thoughts

If you’d rather have something shinier than the Velvet Teddy lipstick, MAC used to recommend the Half n Half lipstick, from the Amplified range, but it has since long been discontinued.

Other MAC Cosmetics lipsticks you can try that are at least a little bit close to Velvet Teddy, without being perfect dupes, would be:

• Creme in Your Coffee: a tad more brown
• Spirit: more brown
• Cosmo: a tad more pink
• Modesty: a tad more pink
• Velvet Teddy 2.0: about the same color but less saturated

MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick Swatch + Review

Since the MAC Velvet Teddy lipstick is such a popular shade which lasts all day and doesn’t really need many touch-ups during the day at all, it’s become a must-have very quickly.

Even before Kylie Jenner acknowledged it was one of her go-to nude lipsticks, and before she released her own cosmetics range.

If you have skin with cool undertones, Velvet Teddy will look a bit more pink on your lips.

Magically, if you have skin with warm undertones, it will take on a slightly browner shade, which means this really is a perfect nude lipstick to have in your stash in any case.
