We’re meeting again for two reviews in one, those of the Juvia’s Place Wahala palette, and the Wahala 2 eyeshadow palette!
If you’ve been on The Working Line before, you know how crazy I am about rainbow eyeshadow palettes.
Not only rainbow and colorful, but any palette that contains metallic or duochrome eyeshadows just gets me super excited.
Enough to brighten up a sad day, dare I say.
A few months ago, Juvia’s Place released two palettes within a few months of each other – and while I do have a preference for the Wahala palette, they’re both incredible quality.
I have had plenty of the best Juvia’s Place eyeshadow palettes over the course of my makeup artist career/makeup enthusiast life, and those…
They’re on yet another level.
The Magic palette and the Nubian 2 palette were some of my first ones, and compared to these, you can definitely tell that with the Wahala range, Juvia’s has reworked the formula.
Less coarse, much finer-milled, with pigmentation that resembles the Natasha Denona palettes closely.
And at such a price point, I’m here for it!
Juvia’s Place Wahala & Wahala 2 Palettes Review + Swatches
The Juvia’s Place Wahala and Wahala 2 palettes are some of the most expensive ever released by the American Black-owned brand.
With the Wahala currently retailing at $38 on the official website, we’re far from the prices of the Zulu eyeshadow palette…
Or the Olori 1, Olori 2 and Olori 3 palettes.
In my opinion, at this point, the price does not even matter.
Because even if you have plenty of colorful, metallic eyeshadow palettes in your stash, I can guarantee you have none with this level of creativity.
Juvia’s Place Wahala Palette Overview
Wa-ha-la is a Nigerian Pidgin word meaning drama, trouble, and intensity.
We were heavily inspired by the craftsmanship of African Masks, which embody traditional culture and are used in ceremonial activities.
Juvia’s Place Wahala 2 Palette Overview
The Wahala 2 Palette lets you unleash your fiercest and most intense eyeshadow looks with its array of 30 new bold and beautiful shades.
Including different beautiful shimmers, duo chromes with the finest pearls, finely milled glitters and matte textures.
Juvia’s Place Wahala Swatches + Review
First up in this review, we have the Juvia’s Place Wahala palette – my favorite out of the two.
I’ve actually reviewed a palette lately that reminds me of the Wahala palette; the Danessa Myricks Transcendence palette.
You’ll see why on the swatches – if you compare the two, you’ll see some similar duochrome eyeshadows.
It’s just that the Juvia’s Place Wahala palette is a third cheaper than the Danessa Myricks palette, which you can’t overlook when you’re a makeup collector.
The overall color story of the Juvia’s Place Wahala palette is quite cool-toned, although you do have a couple of yellow and orange eyeshadows.
Most of them are either neutral, or beautiful pink and purple eyeshadows, but if you look closely, you also have some pretty khaki and teal shades perfect for almost every skin tone.
In the picture above, you can see two of my absolute favorite eyeshadows in the Wahala palette:
- Fighter: an incredibly smooth and pigmented green eyeshadow
- Power: a slightly duochrome blue brown eyeshadow
You have your fair share of utterly metallic eyeshadows in there, with some duochrome shades, some bright mattes, and some thin glitter eyeshadows.
The first two rows of the Juvia’s Place Wahala palette are full of earthy tones and really magical shades.
One of them with a perfect nude matte beige eyeshadow; perfect to use as a transition shade!
Really great matte eyeshadows too; Be You and Fire are perfect blushes for dark skin and medium skin!
The following two rows contain even more neutral brown eyeshadows, but what’s caught my attention as soon as I saw the Wahala palette are the orange, yellow and blue eyeshadows in the middle.
I mean, it just reminds me of the Festival palette – which I love, and if you’ve used it before, maybe you’ll feel the same!
All in all, we can see in the Wahala palette that the colors are crafted to suit all skin tones and all moods.
You want to create a metallic blue eyeliner?
Use some Inglot Duraline and mix it with the Power eyeshadow!
Want to have a really neutral brown eyeshadow look?
You also have everything you need in there!
From glam to really toned-down, the Wahala palette offers all kinds of possibilities.
Plus, if you’re ever looking for the perfect eyeshadow palette for green eyes, blue eyes or brown eyes, you know that’s a one-size-fits-all!
Juvia’s Place Wahala 2 Swatches + Review
When I look at the Juvia’s Place Wahala 2 palette, I see the same kind of color story as the Wahala palette.
Many cool-toned shades, from silver eyeshadows to bright blue and purple eyeshadows – really an interesting color story, since few brands offer really pigmented silver and greys.
Compared to the Wahala palette in which all the eyeshadows are mixed, you can see a real pattern with the Wahala 2 color story: each column responds to a specific color.
In the first column, you have silver and grey, then purple, then cool blues, teal and green eyeshadows, copper and orange eyeshadows, and finally pinkish purple and pink eyeshadows.
I don’t necessarily think the Wahala 2 eyeshadow palette is one of the most beautiful Juvia’s Place products; far from it.
When I look at the palette overall, I don’t like the way the colors are organized between each other – but you know me: it’s product, color and texture over packaging when I judge an item.
And the truth is, whether you’re looking for an eyeshadow palette for skin with cool undertones or warm undertones, it’s an interesting option to have in your stash.
In the first row (not column), you have a mix of cream, matte, and metallic eyeshadows.
The most interesting one is Fake (last one in the picture above), an absolutely stunning purple gold duochrome eyeshadow.
By the way, there are a good couple of duochrome eyeshadows in the Wahala 2 palette, but I’ll include a picture of my two favorites at the end of this guide.
In the second row, you have more cool-toned eyeshadows; of the kind that you could wear for a 60s or 70s makeup look.
Very spring vibes with this row, with a mix of really fine and chunky glitter.
I’m going to be honest, I cannot stand glitter – that must be part of why I’m not too attracted to the Wahala 2 palette and prefer other more… classic color stories.
However, when you’re starting out in makeup and want to have options to create soft glam makeup looks, it can come in handy to have those glitter eyeshadows in a large palette – ready to use.
The following row is pretty interesting too – especially with the metallic purple, blue and champagne eyeshadow.
The cream eyeshadow is good to use in the inner corner, but I have to admit that I have seen both the same kind of green and coral eyeshadow in the Olori 1 palette.
Keep that in mind if you don’t want to have the same kind of shades in many palette.
However, if you have fair skin, you’ll be able to use the cream shade as a highlighter and the orange shade as a coral blush.
In this row, the cream eyeshadow has more of a gold undertone to it, which will be even more beautiful in the inner corner for Asian, medium and dark skin tones.
The matte pink eyeshadow is borderline coral, and another great option for a blush – to couple with something like the MAC All Fired Up lipstick on the lips?
The teal eyeshadow is stunning too, with the slightest hint of green, and you also have one of the most pigmented copper eyeshadows ever in this row.
Now, in this last row, you also have some of my favorite eyeshadows of the Juvia’s Place Wahala 2 palette.
A beautiful silver glitter eyeshadow, perfect for any skin tone – although I do suspect that on medium, dark and olive skin tones, it will have even more of an impact.
The metallic teal eyeshadow here in the middle is another one of the most beautiful duochrome eyeshadows in the Wahala 2 palette.
Blue green duochrome, actually – a color that can suit absolutely any skin tone, whether you have skin with warm undertones or cool undertones.
The matte eyeshadows are especially creamy; a real pleasure to swatch and work with!
As I mentioned before, here are the two most beautiful duochrome eyeshadows in the Wahala 2 palette.
Absolutely incredible, and with not only the same texture, but also almost the same color as those you can find in the Danessa Myricks Transcendence palette!
