A local’s guide to visiting Mount Street Gardens in Mayfair, one of the best hidden gems in Central London, and perfect to see cherry blossom in the spring!

I’m very excited to finally share with you my overview of the wonderful Mount Street Gardens in Mayfair – I’ve mentioned it time and time again but never took the time to post a full travel guide.

It’s one of the many secret gardens you’ll find while walking around London.

Pocket parks like St Dunstan in the East and the Reflection Garden are to be found pretty much anywhere (although mostly in the City of London).

Should you be planning a visit to the wonderful Mayfair neighborhood, with its upscale shopping arcades and village-like feel, do add Mount Street Gardens to your bucket list.

Mount Street Gardens is located on Mount Street, a really small public garden with high-end shops and bakeries like Pasticceria Marchesi two steps away.

The site was originally a burial ground for the parish of St George’s, Hanover Square, a bit like the Postman’s Park (a must-visit with its Memorial to Self-Sacrifice).

As London kept growing in the mid-19th century, churchyards of Central London were closed, and it’s only in 1899 that the area was redesigned and the gardens laid out.

The bronze drinking fountain featuring a rearing horse was added in 1891 designed by two architects, Ernest George and Harold Peto.

Mount Street Gardens still looks the way it did at that period, and it’s a place I cannot recommend enough if you’re looking to find some nature in London.

Indeed, you’ll find, right after you pass the South Audley Street entrance, various trees like classic London plane trees, dawn redwood, willows, and even hardy palms.

As soon as spring comes around, Mount Street Gardens bloom with cherry blossoms, and in the fall, it’s a great spot to sit with a warm latte and enjoy autumn foliage.

When you’re done visiting Mount Street Gardens, why not walk around the nearby Church of the Immaculate Conception on Farm Street?

It’s a beautiful Church with a Gothic style from the mid 19th century, and if you’d like something even livelier but still quirky, you could visit Mercato Mayfair and the stunning repurposed church in which it’s established.

There are plenty of historical buildings in the surroundings, too, mostly with a Georgian or Victorian style, which you can walk around before visiting other secret gardens like Brown Hart Gardens, also located in Mayfair.
