A local’s guide to visiting beautiful Passage Verdeau, a historical covered passage right off the Grands Boulevards in Paris perfect for shopping!
I’ve been talking to you a lot lately about the magnificent covered passages of Paris – these are historic spots that have shaped the city and continue to do so today.
The vast majority of these passages are located around Châtelet, Rue Montorgueil, and the Grands Boulevards, and they are fine examples of 19th-century architecture.
Today, I want to share the Passage Verdeau with you.
It’s the ‘missing link’ in the famous trio of arcades starting at the Grands Boulevards, completing the set alongside Passage Jouffroy and Passage des Panoramas.
Passage Verdeau, A Historical Arcade near Grands Boulevards
Passage Verdeau is located right near the Grands Boulevards, and while its neighbors are close to the famous Musée Grévin and beautiful old-fashioned cafes, Verdeau offers a more vintage atmosphere with its shops for collectors.
It’s interesting to note that Passage Verdeau was built in 1847 by the same architect who designed Passage Jouffroy – Deschamps – but it actually bears the name of the developer who financed the project.
You’ll find that same old-world atmosphere of industrial optimism, with a high, pointed glass ceiling designed to let in as much sunlight as possible, brightening the covered passage even on rainy days.
When it comes to decor, Passage Verdeau keeps things fairly simple.
If you’re looking for mosaics, sculptures, or reliefs, you’d be better off heading toward Galerie Vivienne or Galerie Colbert, both of which are in the 2nd arrondissement.
On the other hand, when it comes to the Passage Verdeau, it’s such a cute spot for shopping in Paris.
You’ll find beautiful bookstores with antique and rare books, art galleries, and plenty of vintage postcards and old maps.
Both the Hôtel Drouot and the lovely Place Gaillon are right nearby, so you’re really in one of the most charming areas of the whole city.

Passage Verdeau, A Historical Arcade near Grands Boulevards
Once you’re done wandering through the Passage Verdeau, you’ll find so many beautiful little spots to visit nearby.
You’re really in one of the city’s historical hearts here, where some of the restaurants and cafes still feel like they’re straight out of the Belle Époque.
Right near the passage, for example, you’ll find Le Bouillon Chartier with its stunning Art Nouveau decor – it’s actually one of the oldest restaurants in Paris, dating all the way back to 1896.
If you want to keep exploring other historic neighborhoods, why not head over to Le Marais?
You can check out the quirky Stravinsky Fountain or the peaceful Cloître des Billettes.
You could also go on a hunt for the most beautiful metro stations in Paris, or head up to Montmartre to soak in that incredible view of the city and pick up some really cool souvenirs!
