A local’s guide to visiting the Marin Montagut shop on Rue Madame, the most beautiful gifts and souvenir shop in Paris with a vintage aesthetic!

Lately, I’ve been spending a huge amount of time in Paris’s 6th arrondissement and Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

I have to admit, it’s the first time in my life I’ve spent so much time in this neighborhood, but it seems to me that if you’re looking to build your own literary itinerary of Paris, you’d be wise to head toward Saint-Germain-des-Prés too.

You’ll find an incredible number of boutiques, stationery shops, and beautiful bookstores – like Assouline or Couleur du Temps – as well as shops perfect for lovers of poetry, craftsmanship, and vintage Paris.

On Rue Madame, not far from Le Bon Marché and La Grande Épicerie, and just a stone’s throw from the Luxembourg Gardens, you’ll find the Marin Montagut boutique.

Marin Montagut is a French illustrator and designer who has recreated the artist workshops of yesteryear within his vintage boutique.

Whether you’re looking for beautiful shops or just a bit of inspiration in the 6th arrondissement, Marin Montagut is a work of art in its own right.

Its wooden apothecary-style furniture, walls laden with sculptures and objects, and display cases are filled with wonders and curiosities – like the magnificent, tiny, hand-painted collectible boxes.

Some of the most beautiful things I found in the Marin Montagut shop were the glasses and carafes, arranged in a way that creates a vintage-style wall.

Rue Madame itself is one of the most beautiful streets in Paris, and it’s where you’ll find the café Le Pont Traversé.

It was once one of the most beautiful bookstores in Paris, and is now an intimate, slightly hipster coffee shop.

Once you’ve finished your shopping or simply visiting the workshop-style boutique, there are other wonderful places to visit near Marin Montagut.

Notably, there’s Le Bon Marché and La Grande Épicerie with its upstairs market and “trompe-l’œil” products.

If, after visiting Marin Montagut, you’d like to discover other magnificent Parisian shops, I recommend the famous Printemps with its Art Deco staircase and free view of the Eiffel Tower, as well as Galeries Lafayette with its Art Nouveau dome.

A few smaller boutiques that I particularly love are Assouline (the two bookstores located almost side-by-side on Rue Bonaparte) and Shakespeare and Company on Rue de la Bûcherie, with its view of Notre-Dame.

Don’t miss the magnificent sculpture La Vénus des Arts, which looks like a “sandwich of art” sculpted in bronze.

Then, if you’re fond of more secret spots in Paris, I suggest the beautiful Musée Bourdelle and its magical garden, the Musée Carnavalet closer to the Marais.

You can also check out Passage du Grand Cerf, Passage Jouffroy, as well as the Cloître des Billettes, one of the most well-preserved medieval spots in Paris.

Of course, one couldn’t visit Paris without a stop at one of those instagrammable cafés and historic bakeries.

That’s why, before or after visiting Marin Montagut, I warmly recommend a pastry at the historic bakery Stohrer on Rue Montorgueil (close to Passage Molière!), or Maison Sauvage on Rue de Buci, located – like Marin Montagut – in the 6th arrondissement.
