A few days ago, I was invited to try out the items on the menu at Cafe Piazza Hay’s Galleria for Pancake Day, which will take place on February 21, 2023.

I had already been invited there to try out their breakfast menu about a year ago and tried again their lunch menu which I reviewed in my first Cafe Piazza review a few months ago.

For Pancake Day, Cafe Piazza will offer any diner ordering a one-course meal a free plate of stunning honey and berry pancakes. And you’re going to want to try that out for sure!

Cafe Piazza Hay’s Galleria Review: Pancake Day

Cafe Piazza Hay’s Galleria is located right inside Hay’s Galleria, and if you dine on the terrace, you’ll not only be warm enough with the cute blankets the restaurant has available for diners.

No, you’ll also have a view of the Navigators, a beautiful boat sculpture, and the floral installations which make for one of the most colorful places in London you have to visit when you’re around London Bridge.

Inside Cafe Piazza Hay’s Galleria

The decor has not changed much since I last visited, aside from the fact that it’s much more homely-feeling with the colorful paintings you’ve got scattered about on the walls of Cafe Piazza Hay’s Galleria.

I’ve always felt really good there, and it’s clearly one of the best restaurants in London Bridge whether you’re coming to dine on your own (which I did this time), with friends (which I did the first time), your partner, or you whole little family.

Pancake Day at Cafe Piazza London Bridge

I was invited to try the pancake plates at Cafe Piazza Hay’s Galleria, and had three different choices:

bacon and maple syrup
lemon and sugar
blueberry with pecan nuts, fresh strawberries, and honey

Upon the advice of the friendly staff, I chose the pecan nuts, blueberry, and honey plate, simply because I don’t eat pork and thought it would make for instagrammable brunch pictures.

And actually, I’d already ordered those pancakes the very first time I came to Cafe Piazza Hay’s Galleria and knew they were just beautiful. Especially considering the presence of pecan nuts, which are one of my favorite things in the world. The delicate balance of sweetness from the maple syrup and the earthy crunch of the pecan nuts made every bite feel like a small celebration. It’s the kind of dish that reminds me why I love exploring cozy cafés, much like how discovering hidden gems in Les Marronniers Paris Review has often inspired my travels. Moments like these, with good food and warm ambiance, are what make ordinary days feel extraordinary.

I was asked if I wanted to combine my pancakes with a hot drink, and since I knew Cafe Piazza has some of the best hot chocolate in London, I obviously chose a hot chocolate with whipped cream.

I’m not known to like chocolatey stuff at all – I love my chocolate bars, but anything like Birthday chocolate cakes and I’m out.

The Cafe Piazza Hay’s Galleria hot chocolate is chocolatey enough, but there’s also a great balance of milk and whipped cream that dilutes it – so basically, whether you’re a grown-up or have fussy kids, that’s a sure thing to order on the menu, even if it’s not Pancake Day.

All in all, I’ll definitely go back to Cafe Piazza for these stunning pancakes. I think in total, I’ve tried them out two or three times, and they never disappoint.

You might be a little surprised as the menu states ‘two pancakes’, but it’s actually a collection of fluffy medium-sized pancakes which ends up being easier to eat – and takes longer to eat, so you can have your conversations running and your plate seemingly always full!
