A local’s guide to visiting Lux Bar on Rue Lepic, a historic Montmartre cafe bar with a mosaic scene – a great example of the Belle Epoque in Paris!
I recently told you about the Belle Époque and the most beautiful places to find Art Nouveau in Paris, and today I wanted to focus on a place I am particularly fond of, located on Rue Lepic in Montmartre: the Lux Bar.
Unlike some famous Art Nouveau spots in Paris that have now become quite expensive, this remains an unpretentious bistro on a street that inspired the film Amélie – with the Café des Deux Moulins just a few doors down.
Lux Bar, Paris’s Historic Cafe With A Belle Epoque Mosaic
Let’s start with the classic façade, which dates back to 1910 and is made of dark wood.
Even before entering the Lux Bar, you find yourself in a place that contrasts with the surrounding souvenir shops.
Remember that Rue Lepic begins near Pigalle and ends toward the Sacré-Cœur, making it one of the most visited spots in Montmartre.
When you step inside, you are greeted by vintage mirrors, original patinated woodwork, and a mosaic that makes the Lux Bar a very special place.
Like the façade, this Art Nouveau mosaic dates from 1910, and in it, you can recognize a representation of “Old Montmartre,” notably featuring Place Blanche and the famous Moulin Rouge.
If you are someone who likes to follow a literary itinerary through Paris, this café-bar is the perfect spot for you.
On the mosaic, you can read an excerpt from the poem “Paris mon camarade” written by the famous Montmartre poet Bernard Dimey, who considered Le Lux Bar his “annexe.”

Lux Bar, Paris’s Historic Cafe With A Belle Epoque Mosaic
After a coffee or breakfast, you will find many places to visit in Montmartre, whether for shopping – with the candles of Les Bougies de Charroux or at Place du Tertre – or discovering secret gardens like the Jardin des Abbesses, and of course, the Wall of Love (Le Mur des Je t’aime) near the metro station.
Close to Le Lux Bar, you can also admire the Moulin de la Galette, one of the only two surviving windmills on the Montmartre butte.
Head toward the Sacré-Cœur, and from the top of the stairs or from Rue du Mont Cenis, you can admire a magnificent view of Paris.
Alternatively, if you’d like to continue exploring Montmartre, Rue de l’Abreuvoir with the famous Maison Rose and Le Poulbot with its vintage storefront are two other spots you can add to your list.
