A local’s guide to visiting Horizon 22, one of the highest free viewpoints in the City of London, with views over Canary Wharf, Tower Bridge, and the Shard!

Several times before, I’ve told you about free rooftops I love visiting when I live in London – a few years ago, a new one opened in the City, Horizon 22.

I’ve wanted to share this wonderful spot with you before, but always decided on other topics (hello ADHD) and historical sites like St Alphage Garden and St Dunstan in the East.

If you’re visiting London on a budget, you’ll find Horizon 22 is a great spot to admire views over the entire city, from The Shard to Canary Wharf.

Horizon 22 is located on Bishopsgate, not too far from Bank and Liverpool Street stations on the Central Line, and you can also access it easily from Moorgate and Monument.

It’s open every day of the week from 10 am until 4 pm on Sundays (6 pm on weekdays, 7 pm on Saturdays), so you have plenty of time to admire the views before visiting nearby historical sites.

Horizon 22 is located on Level 58 – that’s one of the highest viewing platforms in London, which the lifts reach in only 41 seconds.

From there, you’ll catch views of the most famous landmarks in London; The Shard, Tower Bridge, Canary Wharf, and many more.

Should you get hungry, you’ll find there’s a small cafe located right under the main stairs on Level 58.

There are only a few tables but you’ll be able to enjoy warm coffee and freshly baked pastries and cakes.

There’s another cafe at ground level along the Art Walkway, called Blend Cafe – but if you want, you can also bring your own water bottles and small snacks (hot food is not permitted, though).

When you’re done exploring Horizon 22, you’ll find the exit is located on the other side of the building, and allows you to see a really cute, hidden courtyard.

If you want to keep visiting old neighborhoods and historical sites, you’ll find plenty located in the City:

If on the other hand you’re looking for more modern things to do, why not enjoy an immersive experience, or discover London’s street art spots?

Shoreditch is located quite close to Bishopsgate, and you’ll also find lots of vintage shops around Old Spitalfields Market and Brick Lane!
