A local’s guide to shopping at Maltpress Trading near Crystal Palace Park – one of the most secret curiosity, antiques and vintage shops in London!

Today’s all about a vintage, antiques and curiosity shop I’ve been loving ever since I was first brought to it by a new friend made at nearby The Vaults Collective.

Maltpress Trading, in the Crystal Palace Triangle, is a place no shopaholic slash history lover should miss – even if it’s a bit of a ride from Central London.

Should you have read a few guides here on The Working Line in the past, you’ll probably have noticed I’m fond of anything historic in London – be if medieval spots or vintage cafes.

Maltpress Trading is a pretty spacious shop located on Westow Street, a stone’s throw away from the Crystal Palace Park dinosaurs and Colairo’s Deli, a wonderful cafe where you can have a taste of Red Velvet doughnuts.

It’s open from Wednesday to Sunday, 11 am to 5 pm, giving us plenty of time to enjoy the collection of antiques displayed.

Owner Sally Battley, nee Maltpress, hunts for the most aesthetic, throwback pieces she can get her hands on.

From old signs to kitchenware, tights and combs, photographs and kids’ books, there’s everything and anything vintage enthusiasts might be wishing for.

When I visited Maltpress Trading, I quickly noticed that the items are fairly priced; I treated myself to a Roman-style mini bust mounted on a column that retailed for just four pounds, and have kept it till now.

There are nightgowns from past decades, hair accessories, jewelry, and home decor pieces galore – whether you’re looking for unique souvenirs or a vintage bit to treat a beloved, the shop is a must-visit.

I cannot recommend a visit to Maltpress Trading enough – if you’re staying around South East London, you really shouldn’t miss it.

Even when I used to live in North London, I’d still pop by the Crystal Palace area: it’s got that village feel, secret cafes, and independent shops that are very much worth the trip.
