How about we do a full Beauty Bay Bright Matte palette review today? Some time ago, I told you about the best Beauty Bay eyeshadow palettes, and obviously, I included the Bright Matte 42 Colour palette in that guide.
I can’t remember exactly when BeautyBay released this palette but I do remember that it was sold out for ages before I was actually able to bag it and cart it out.
The makeup world as I see it is now distinctly shattered between all-nude ladies and editorial gals and I must admit that I have never been completely able to position myself in one category or the other.
But then again – why should I distort my creative soul to fit it in a box when makeup is one of the most accepted ways for humans to practice art day after day? Especially when I love creating imaginary makeup, and we have brands offering us crazy palettes.
I love styles like the super special Juvia’s Place eyeshadow palettes – and Beauty Bay, who released their latest gem, Retro Love, just a few weeks ago.
I became just a lil’ crazy when BeautyBay released the first batch Everything You Need (EYN) eyeshadow palettes and might have bought almost all of them.
When I realized the bigger palettes were made up of a lot of the shades contained in the smaller versions, I returned most of them. Kept the Beauty Bay Bright Matte 42 Colour palette, though.
How could I not?

Beauty Bay Bright Matte 42 Eyeshadow Palette Review
As much as I disliked the shimmer shades from BeautyBay – that my demanding self would have hoped to be more metallic, I loved the mattes at first swatch.
The Beauty Bay Bright Matte 42 palette is a success as much in terms of color display and pigmentation and I used to use this palette very often on photoshoots back when I was an active makeup artist.
It is a dream come true for any watercolor lover person as a simple mixing medium, like the Rugiada Per Makeup from Neve Cosmetics, from MAC Cosmetics to NYX, can get the eyeshadows waterproof, allowing you to layer the colors.
You literally have everything you need in the Beauty Bay Bright Matte 42 Colour palette.
From the famous ultra-pigmented black eyeshadow we all crave to neutral transition shades and bright yellow eyeshadows, I’ve literally never seen an eyeshadow palette that pigmented.
The packaging of the Beauty Bay Bright Matte 42 eyeshadow palette is not the most beautiful, granted. However, it’s sturdy and gets the job done.
Plus, I guess that at $25 for 42 ultra-pigmented eyeshadows, we can’t ask too much from an international makeup brand – or can we?
I found when I was taking the Beauty Bay Bright Matte palette on photoshoots that it used to get really dirty when I was busy taking it to touch up my models’ faces.
That’s clearly one of the rainbow eyeshadow palettes you want to clean as often as possible.
Beauty Bay Bright Matte Palette: Rows Breakdown
The rows in the Beauty Bay Bright Matte 42 palette are clearly defined:
- a row full of nude, black, grey, and brown eyeshadows
- the next one is full of pink eyeshadows
- then you have a row full of orange eyeshadows, warm-toned browns, and red eyeshadows
- next up, a few yellow eyeshadows and a nice selection of green eyeshadows
- then, a few very different blue eyeshadows, from navy to teal eyeshadows
- and the last row is full of purple eyeshadows, from lilac to dark plum eyeshadows
Beauty Bay Bright Matte 42 Eyeshadow Palette Swatches
In the first row of the Beauty Bay Bright Matte 42 palette, you have two very useful shades: a white eyeshadow, and a really pigmented black eyeshadow.
The three neutrals are warm toned eyeshadows perfect for every day and for transition whether you have fair skin or medium to dark skin.
A great mix of cool toned pink eyeshadows to hot pinks and coral eyeshadows in the second row.
All of these eyeshadows could be used as blushes or to powder satin lipsticks too – which is what I used to do on photoshoots.
Again, a full row of orange and red eyeshadows that could be used either as blushes or to mattify some kind of shiny lipstick (like the MAC Amplified lipsticks, or the Love Me lipsticks).
A really nice selection if you’re ever looking for a rainbow eyeshadow palette for spring and summer (or even winter, really).
It’s not that easy to find really well-pigmented yellow eyeshadows, and we have a really light yellow here alongside two really bright yellows. Then, you have a couple of stunning green eyeshadows, very spring, very bright, and beautiful.
This row is probably one of my favorites since you have one really beautiful teal eyeshadow which strongly reminds me of the color of one of my favorite Inglot Gel eyeliners.
A stunning row for anyone who has brown eyes or really blue eyes.
The row of light and bright blue eyeshadows in the Beauty Bay Bright Matte eyeshadow palette is crazy beautiful.
I am usually really attracted to teal eyeshadows and electric blue eyeshadows (and electric blue eyeliners!) which look amazing on my fair olive skin tone.
In this row, you have ultra-pigmented blue eyeshadows, with the last two eyeshadows boasting a bit less pigment with the swatches. However, on the eyes, they show up beautifully.
The last row of the Beauty Bat Bright Matte palette is full of beautiful purple eyeshadows, from really cool toned, 80s type of bright purple, to some plum eyeshadows, and some really dark ones too.
I’ve found that the last two purple eyeshadows in the Bright Matte 42 palette were a tad less pigmented than the average eyeshadow in this one, but it’s kind of normal – purple is a hard color to get pigmented when it comes to eyeshadows.
Beauty Bay Bright Matte 42 Eyeshadow Palette Review
In conclusion? I am not too sure why you would need another rainbow type of colorful palette if you get the Beauty Bay Bright Matte 42 palette. Greed, I would say? Collectioner’s greed?
Apart from the darker purples that are always tricky to nail and still perform amazingly considering the price point ($25), the overall quality and possibilities offered by this palette make it a snatch.
I cannot wait for the day that a palette catches my heart like this one did, many months ago. A staple in your collection, honestly!
Until next time!
